Introduction to GSM-R Solution:

Huawei GSM-R solution is solution for the challenges being faced due to increasing traffic on railroads. It is designed to support increased capacity and higher throughput of GSM-R. It integrates a highly efficient radio interface, which is based on the LTE standard, and Huawei's innovative constellation design technology. Huawei’s GSM-R Solution will help railways increase their competitiveness by lowering costs, improving service quality and achieving higher levels of safety.
Full-customized GSM-R solution is an essential part of Huawei's 5G network portfolio, providing a more stable and reliable network connection. The GSM-R standard is a railway signaling standard that replaces the traditional ways of signaling along railways with modern digital system.
Huawei's GSM-R Solution has successfully enabled China to build the world's largest rail communications network. Huawei is developing a GSM-R solution for the Ministry of Railways and has already invested in high-capacity, high-speed data networks for both China Railway Corporation and Ministry of Railways. This solution has been chosen by China Railway Corporation as the primary supplier for Phase 3 of the China Railway Communications Project (CRCT).
GSM-R Solution is a digital wireless communication system that is developed for consumption of various communication stake holders i-e Engineers, controllers, field staff and security personnel. Components of Huawei GSM-R Solution:
The overall solution has been divided into following three types of devices:
1. Terminals,
2. Access Network devices &
3. Core Network devices.
The working of the GSM-R communication system is like the working of a normal wireless communication systems where signals from end-users are carried to Radio Access Network and further aggregated at Core Network.
1. Terminals (GPH R662 Handset)
Terminals are handsets (GPH R662) being used for communication of Railways workers. The handset is designed in a way to keep it user-friendly, easy to use and high flexible. GPH R662 handset offers convenient mean of communication through its single emergency call key and Push-To-Talk (PTT) features.
Due to advanced Hardware & Software design, the handset ensures best user experience, functional stability & efficient performance. The GPH R662 Handset design allows usage of two frequencies bands i-e GSM900 & DCS1800. Another exceptional feature of the handset is its low power consumption and support of 2000mAH Lithium Battery that ensure long standing UP time for the handset.

2. Radio Access Network (BSC6000)
Radio Access Network device BSC6000 is a high capacity base station device for GSM-R solution. It is an elementary devices of the radio access network that help in forming the foundations of communication of Huawei’s GSM-R solution. BSC6000 can handle traffic of 24,000 (ERLs) and 4,096 transceivers can be connected to it for traffic management.
In addition to the efficiency and the reliability, power and space optimization are the key value addition of BSC6000 because of it’s a compact-sized device with power requirement of 48V DC only.
Configuration is one of the key issues faced in wireless communications systems. BSC6000 unit uses modular configurations provides simplified maintenance and minimal upgrade & repair time.

3. Core Network (GTSOFTX3000)
Softswitch (GTSOFTX3000) acts as a Mobile Switching Center (MSC) and is a customizable component of Huawei’s GSM-R solution. It allows very basic communications facility high-end value added services to railways operators.
The hardware of GTSOFTX3000 OSTA.2 standardized enables it with high scalability as per needs & easy upgrades. This MSC can control upto 300 Media Gateways (MGWs) and can support maximum of 256 Base Station Centers (BSC).
High system availability (i-e 99.999%) is another prime feature of this MSC element. Since the MSC acts as a brain of the whole wireless communication system, Mean Time To Repairs (MTTR) and Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) are some important parameter to for in the MSC devices. Softswitch (GTSOFTX3000) provides an MTTR of less than one hour and MTBF of at least 24 years for full configuration devices.
