About This Document

Purpose

This document describes that components compatible with FusionStorage are divided into the following types in detail:

l   Servers: include storage node servers that constitute a FusionStorage storage pool and computing node servers with Virtual Block Storage (VBS) processes deployed. The server types include rack servers, blade servers, and high-density servers.

l   I/O board cards: include network interface cards (NICs), host bus adapters (HBAs), and redundant array of independent disks (RAID) cards.

l   Virtualization platforms and operating systems (OSs): include all virtualization platforms and OSs installed on physical servers.

This chapter describes FusionStorage compatibility determining process and methods, and authentication methods for incompatible components.

2.1 Hardware Compatibility

2.1.1 Process for Determining Hardware Compatibility

Determine the compatibility of the following hardware, such as servers, RAID cards, NICs, disks, and solid-state drive (SSD) cards based on the following procedures. If the hardware is not compatible, see section 1.1.2 "Hardware Compatibility Authentication Process" for authentication.

2.1.2 Hardware Compatibility Authentication Process

If hardware is not compatible, see the following authentication process:

l   Contact Lu Guangzheng (email: luguangzheng@huawei.com) to obtain the compatibility authentication tool.

l   To run the authentication tool on a server, the server must have access to the tool and meets all the requirements listed in the tool user guide

l   Compatibility support engineers collect information for ***ysis and develop related compatible plug-ins. One-week authentication period is required for the compatibility support engineers from receiving feedback from compatibility tools to releasing the compatible plug-ins.

2.2 OS and Hypervisor Compatibility

2.2.1 Process for Determining OS and Hypervisor Compatibility

Information to be collected includes OS vendors, models, versions, and kernel versions.

2.2.2 OS and Hypervisor Compatibility Authentication Process

 

Compatibility support engineers collect information for ***ysis and develop related compatible plug-ins. One-week authentication period is required for the compatibility support engineers from receiving feedback from compatibility tools to releasing the compatible plug-ins.

2.3 Process for Determining Application Compatibility

Determine the compatibility through the application software compatibility list. For details, see section 6.1 "Database Compatibility List."

I/O Board Card Compatibility List

4.1 RAID Card Compatibility List

FusionStorage provides plug-ins to support new types of PCIe SSD cards. The plug-ins allow different SSD cards to be supported by FusionStorage. The plug-ins define the mapping among the PHY numbers of RAID cards, hard disk slot numbers, and hard disk equipment serial numbers (ENSs), and deal with the special non-standard error codes of some RAID cards.

Configuration for RAID cards:

l   When the RAID cards of LSI 1068/1068E, 2308, 3008 chips are configured, data disks do not form RAID groups.

l   When the RAID cards of LSI 1078, 2208, 3108 chips are configured, each storage disk must form an independent RAID 0 array for the host to identify it. In addition, the RAID card write policy must be configured to write-through

l   When the RAID cards of HP Smart Array P400i, P410i, and 420i are configured, each storage disk must form an independent RAID 0 array for the host to identify it. In addition, the RAID card write policy must be configured to write-through.

l   If disks added to a FusionStorage storage resource pool are required to form RAID 0, see vendors' server documentations. When disks that have formed RAID 0 are hot-swapped, the disks are manually added to the system, and otherwise the disks cannot be identified by the system. For details, see vendors' server documentations.

l   Data disks are not allowed to be configured to multiple RAID groups on the same server.

l   Data disks are not allowed to be configured to multiple expanders on the same RAID group.

5.1 HDD Disk Compatibility List

FusionStorage is compatible with SATA and SAS hard disk drive (HDD) disks, including SAS, NL-SAS, and SATA hard disks of all models, and is not compatible with FC HDD disks.

FusionStorage is compatible with SATA and SAS SSD disks and is not compatible with FC SSD disks.

5.3 PCIe SSD Card and Disk Compatibility List

FusionStorage provides plug-ins to support new types of PCIe SSD cards. PCIe SSD cards are compatible with FusionStorage if a proper plug-in is installed. The plug-ins define the mappings between PCIe numbers and ESNs of the SSD cards and therefore allow different SSD cards to be easily supported by FusionStorage and allow the system to detect SSD card faults, such as capacitor faults and wear-out issues.
