Reason:

"The Da Vinci Code" is the most impressive book I've ever read in junior high school, the World famous paintings aren't as simple as we seem, and if you study them carefully and associate them, the results are so shocking.

Have you read this book?

Pride and Prejudice

I actually liked this movie better.

Pride and vanity often seem synonymous, but they are different concepts. A man may have arrogance but not vanity. Arrogance comes more from what we think of ourselves, and vanity comes more from what we care about other people's opinions.

If you like it too, please "like" for me.

I believe I got it from my cousin during the COVID19 Pandemic period last year. This book is a bit old but one of the best books I read last year.

Summary of stories:

Another series of heartwarming stories, this time about college from the perspectives of parents, students, teachers, and others. I have an odd fascination with certain aspects of stereotypical American culture, mainly because I find them strange. One of them is the tradition of uprooting yourself from your family and friends and relocating to a tiny cell of a room a million miles away or attending college. I'm also fascinated by the whole obsessive process of getting into a "healthy" college.

Hence, I recommend reading this book to everyone and the link is as follow,

POH

Happiness is our inner state of bring. That's why animals, birds, plants and the whole universe are in the permanent state of happiness. But human beings have become conscious of there seperated existence as individuals. When this sense of seperation succeeds in isolating us from the universe, it creates unhappiness. Our memory which has its uses for our material wellbeing. becomes a hindrance to our happiness by creating past, present resen and future. We start living in the past and future instead of the present. Our ego creates false pride, unnatural desire, anger and greed and creates unhappiness. So, we have to re- discover our true happiness and spread it throughout the world. Persuit of happiness is natural after we have created unhappiness within and without ourselves. But this persuit itself is a symptom of incompleteness and cause of unhappiness in spiritual sense. Persuit of happiness may be natural at physical and mental level but not in spiritual level because at spiritual level happiness is our eternal state of bring. It is a matter of realization when all persuit is abandoned. Yoga is nothing but union or end of seperation. This knowledge of union is the field of spiritual education.

Homo Deus

Hi, everyone

I've actually read this book and very enjoyed reading it.

To begin with, we're all at least IT professionnals or Students, so I think it's important to know which kind of  world will be shaped by Technology (AI, bio engineering, nano technology, robotic) in the years or centuries ahead.

Yuval Noah Harari, try to anwers this question throughout the book.

For Example, in the middle age, it was the holy scriptures that gave meaning to our life(whom we must marry, what's beatiful and so a on).Today, we live in an era of big data, so we rely more on Google Map than on our gut instant to go somewhere.

Finnally, he invites us not take he's word for the absolute truth but rather  what humans might try to achieve by 2100 (like immortality, everlasting happiness) since we have won the fight against war, plague, famine.

I really recommend you to read this book if you haven't yet.

Yes, of course history have shown that we've always been wrong about predicting our future.Nevertheless, this book is about possibilities, what humans will try to achieve as we have more and more power.

I see

Rich dad poor dad

Many of us may understand the benefits of savings, however, we may not know how to create or manage our money. There is a range of books that cover personal finance. One of my favorite books of all time is Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki. It really helped me to open up your mind on how to improve my financial knowledge.

If you still need convincing, here are 3 reasons why I think it's amazing :

  1. It teaches you that there is no end to learning :

Whilst money is needed in order to function in today’s society, the only way to gain more income is to gain more financial knowledge.

Here is a quote from the book : “Money without financial intelligence is money soon gone”

    2. It teaches you that mastering your emotions is the key to well manage money :

The book mentions that there are two emotions that trap most people : fear and desire. These two can affect your decision and make you irrational.

Here is my favorite quote from the book that emphasize that: Learn to use your emotions to think, not think with your emotions”.

      3. It teaches you that you can have a choice in life :

We often believe that we don't have the choice to choose how we live, how we earn our income and spend it. This book encourages you to find new ways to make money instead of being stuck in a job that you hate in order to pay your bills.

Interesting

Frans Kafka - The Metamorphosis

Kafka's clever use of symbolism caters to the allegorical style of his work and successfully illustrates a theme of maturity and alienation. The first transformation is a physical one. Gregor wakes up first thing in the morning and realizes that he has been transformed into a giant insect. It is very similar with our life.

This book has been one of the best books I have ever read.  It is a psychological and detective thriller, it has a mixture of intrigue, suspense and adventure.
One day the psychologist Frederick Stark receives a letter that is signed with a pseudonym and challenges him to guess who the author of the letter is within 15 days, but if he manages to fail, he will have to make a decision between end with his own life or witnessing how each one of his loved ones is destroyed.  Since he is furious with him  for not being able to help his mother, when she was his patient.[World Book Day] Pass on the power of reading and win amazing gifts!-3900139-1

Lost Horizon James Hamilton's Lost Horizon is on top of my fave book list! I ordered two and left one in the office so I could also share it to my colleagues who are also into books. Please continue reading below this image. Click "VIEW MORE."

Lost Horizon

I also ordered the audible selection of this so that I could listen listen to it when I don't have the ability to sit and read a book. It is also one of my favorite movies. As they say the book is always better than the movie and in this case the book and the movie are equal partners. I have read this book several times and thoroughly enjoy the storyline. If you ever dream of finding a utopia where time does not matter this is a book for you. It has everything you need for a good story, adventure, suspense, love, fantasy and very thought-provoking. The characters make observations about the world's past and future which appear prophetic. It seems to me that today's world is exactly what they saw. And of course it is, because humans have always been what we are now. Hilton's style may seem dated and stilted to modern readers, but if you can get past that the reward is worth having endured it. Do read a sample first. That will help you to decide. None of this takes away from the central mystery of Shangri-La. It draws you in, you want to believe it and stay in it, just as desperately as young Mallinson wants to leave it. It's a powerful, delicious compulsion. Give in to it. It's well worth the wonder, in all of the meanings that wonder can have.Several of James Hilton's books have been made into movies and to me that is a great sign of an awesome book. I would recommend this book to everyone who loves to read.

Have you watched Becoming Jane Austen?

It's the autobiographical film of the author of Pride and Prejudice, a talented independent woman who has written six love stories in her life but has never been married, who perseveres in her pursuits under the eyes of the world.

Not everyone can be Jane Austen. Faith, persistence, independence.

War

War and PeaceRussian author Leo Tolstoy, first published serially, then published in its entirety in 1869. It is regarded as one of Tolstoy's finest literary achievements and remains an internationally praised classic of world literature. The novel spans the period from 1805 to 1820. The era of Catherine the Great was still fresh in the minds of older people. Catherine had made French the language of her royal court. For the next 100 years, it became a social requirement for the Russian nobility to speak French and understand French culture.

The best ever book for me is the one which helps to live you better in real world. It is because books are the best friend of any human. I always struggled with Physics and finally I got the mantra that if you want to learn anything learn the 'Concept'. I came in the contact with video lectures of a very energetic personality Prof Walter Lewin Sir from MIT. His way of teaching changed my everything related to Physics. He is the real hero for me i take inspieation from him and his book "For the love of Physics..." is the best ever book i emphasis. Whether you are from Science background or not, it does not matter for him. He just tells you the pure concept. That also in such a way that you forget everything and start floating in the beautiful explaination and finally happens what he says... "I would make you fall in love with Physics".

It protects you from cancer and dementia. It wards off colds and the flu. It lowers your risk of heart attacks and stroke, not to mention diabetes. You’ll even feel happier, less depressed, and less anxious. Are you interested?”

This is one of the most important books I’ve read, and the one that I have recommended the most.

Matthew Walker presents a collection of sleep studies to explain why we sleep. From the first page, Walker hits you with shocking facts on how insufficient sleep is the key factor to developing almost every issue that is harassing modern society, and he doesn’t stop throughout the whole book.

The book covers:
• How insufficient sleep affects you cognitive performance, creativity, immune system, and overall health.
• How sleep enhances every major organ within your body and every process within your brain.
• The sleep cycle (REM and NREM) and the benefits of each stage.
• Why we dream.
• Your circadian rhythm (Melatonin and adenosine)
• How caffeine, alcohol and other drugs affect your sleep.
• The evolutionary purpose of sleep development.
• How sleep affects brain development in early stages of life.
• How modern society is damaging our sleep quality and health.
• Sleep studies on performance.
• Why you cannot catch up on lost sleep.
• Insomnia.
• How to sleep better.
And much, much more.

We all know someone who doesn’t sleep very well. Share this post with that person! i_f01.gif

The Lord of the Rings is an epic high fantasy novel by the English author and scholar J. R. R. Tolkien. Set in Middle-earth, the world at some distant time in the past, the story began as a sequel to Tolkien's 1937 children's book The Hobbit, but eventually developed into a much larger work. Written in stages between 1937 and 1949, The Lord of the Rings is one of the best-selling books ever written, with over 150 million copies sold. I have seen all parts of this novel and my all times favorite for sure .

SHUGGIE BAIN ( ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

Author: Douglas Stuart

Awards: The Booker Prize 2020.( Winner)

For once in my (essentially short) bookstagramming life, I'm indeed dumbfounded to such an extent that the analytical mind seems to have deserted me. I think we can all agree that each and every character( minute or principal) from the masterpiece held multifaceted mirrors of revelation to our degenerating selves.

Agnes Bain, as much as fate's basket of misery she was, had us hold on to that elusive silver lining right till the very end. Shuggie's heart kept reverberating those millions of pleas us readers kept holding onto for his beloved mother to keep going just a little longer. But its a fact that things we pin our hopes firmly to are never meant to be: not her aspirations, not Eugene and in the end, not even her; kismet always has its way.

To admit the truth, I missed the point with the final chapter: The South Side. The pulsating gloom kept me from perceiving the profoundness of the life after and its significance. Above all, Shuggie Bain is decidedly the most impactful I've ever indulged in.

People who like to read must be richer inside. You can also recommend other good books.

I highly recommend you read Mindset – The new psychology of success

Mindset

Brief: There are two types of mindsets - fixed and growth. Without realising, most of us become trapped in the fixed mindset with no way to improve our lives or others. "Becoming is better than being"

Why should read:

  • For an exploration of the two mindsets.  In a fixed mindset, people believe that their intelligence and talent are fixed traits. In a growth mindset, people believe that their abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work. In short, our beliefs about ourselves can block or empower us.

  • For insights on how mindsets change the meaning of failure.  People with a fixed mindset tend to view failure as defining them.  Those with a growth mindset face failure or obstacles by digging in more, tackling problems or learning from them.

  • For strategies in changing mindsets.  The good news is that mindsets can change. The book gives countless examples and strategies for changing your beliefs about your abilities, how you work through failure, and how you view learning/success.

Who should read: Educators, Leaders and Parents

One of the best literary works I have read. Despite being extensive, it keeps you entertained and immersed in the curiosities of the Middle Ages. You learn that despite difficulties you always has to fight for what you wants.

The Kite Runner is the first novel by Afghan-American author Khaled Hosseini. Published in 2003 , it tells the story of Amir, a young boy from the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul. The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of Afghanistan's monarchy through the Soviet military intervention, the exodus of refugees to Pakistan and the United States, and the rise of the Taliban regime. A true story to read for book lovers.

Atomic Habits by James Clear
If you're having trouble changing your habits, the problem isn't you. The problem is your system. Bad habits repeat themselves again and again not because you don't want to change, but because you have the wrong system for change. You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems. Here, you'll get a proven system that can take you to new heights.

The Art of War by Sun Tzu

The Art of War

I would highly recommend to read this book as this is one of my favorite books I ever read.

The Art of War by Sun Tzu is an ancient Chinese military text composed of thirteen chapters, that are devoted to the strategic and tactical aspects of warfare. The Art of War explains in detail how we must behave in battle, and, more importantly: how to win.

Aside from specific tips on combat, the Art of War has a profound philosophical side to it. Sun Tzu argues that war shouldn’t be taken lightly, that the highest form of warfare is defeating the enemy without fighting, and that being ‘still’ and ‘inscrutable’ is the business of a general. He emphasizes the use of intelligence over brute force and teaches us how to win battles the smart way.

The beauty of the Art of War is that its wisdom can be applied to our modern lives as well; even in times of peace, when we don’t have to deal with bloodshed, but rather with work, sports, and daily conflicts in general.

Interesting .Great book!!!!

I must say, that this is one of the best book I ever read. And let me tell you, I read a lot of books. This is one of my favourite because it explains how much the tiny habits, the tiny and daily decisitions you make affects your life at the end. It's like when you eat a candy every single day, it might not affect you today, or tomorrow or maybe at the end of the week. But by the end of 6 month your teeth won't be the same and any other health issues you'll start to develop. This book will help you to understand that you just have to start what you want with tiny steps, no need to rush, but you have to start.

This book tought me that you have to be aware of the things you're doing today, those decisitions or habits that by the end of the year, won't helped me to achieve what I want or who I would like to become. It helped me to understand the importance of eliminating the things you don't want to be. Remember that the things that damage or hurt yourself you might won't be able to recognize it at first, but you just have to think: "What would I be like if I continue doing this?" 'Where am I going by doing this everyday?' 'How is this taking me closer to my goal?'

I do recommend this book to any person I believe that it will help to change their lifes. It did for me and I hope it does the same for you guys.

  • Quadrant I. Urgent and important (Do) – important deadlines and crises

  • Quadrant II. Not urgent but important (Plan) – long-term development

  • Quadrant III. Urgent but not important (Delegate) – distractions with deadlines

The novel examines a futuristic society, called the World State, that revolves around science and efficiency. In this society, emotions and individuality are conditioned out of children at a young age, and there are no lasting relationships because “every one belongs to every one else”

All habits can be broken down into a 3 step process.
1. Cue (a stimulus that triggers a routine).
2. Routine (the habit).
3. Reward (a satisfaction indicator that tells your body you should repeat the behavior(the routine)).

That’s the composition of a habit. Control each step and you’ll control your life, basically.

I’m going to use one story of this book in order to explain my biggest takeaway.

Charles Whitman killed his mother and wife with a knife. After that, he went to the University of Texas and started shooting people indiscriminately. He was an extremely intelligent person, with an IQ of 139. In his suicide letter, he described his inability to control his actions, and let know he loved his mother with all his heart. After the autopsy, there was found a tumor in his brain that provoked the behavior.

I bring up this story to point out one fact. That by just altering the biochemistry or physiology of our bodies, our whole behavior change, for good or for bad. This is really thought-provoking. It might sound obvious, but we experience these examples every single moment and most of the time we don’t realize.

Was Charles Whitman guilty or just another victim? Considering that the tumor was the cause even for his own death. We can extrapolate this example to any decision we make. Either it is a tumor, our biochemistry, our genes, our environment; there’s always something taking the decisions we think we do. The illusion of being someone who has a body is where the whole project of our life is based. But we are not that someone, we are just the body. A body whose brain give rise to thoughts “we” don’t produce, but just experience and attribute to “us”. And those thoughts will be produced in relation to the current state of the body, which again, we don’t choose.

That view might seem like it takes meaning from life, but it doesn’t take the joy of experiencing it. When we understand that’s the way it works, we’ll understand fundamentally how putting our body in the right conditions -good sleep, good food, good relationship, good environment, etc.- is the key to live a plentiful life, and habit formation is the first step to achieve it.

Good habits are the key to success and wealth, and they benefit immensely, while bad habits prevent people from achieving their goals and tend to become stumbling blocks. So, habit also determines fate to some extent.
