[WLAN From Beginner to Expert — Common WLAN Delivery Cases] Poor Quality or Improper Installation of Network Cables and Insufficient Optical Fiber P

While the installation of the device itself is important in the process of deploying the device, the quality of the cable as the key to connecting the device is also important.

Let's take a look at a case.

Symptom

APs fail to go online, ping packets are lost, or the upgrade fails on a WLAN.

Fault Location

  1. According to the AP going-online failure causes and upgrade failure causes, confirm that the link expires.

  2. If a network cable is connected, check the number of error packets on the AP's uplink interface that is directly connected to the switch, check whether the negotiated rate of the interface is 1000 Mbit/s, and run the virtual-test command to check whether the network cable is experiencing open circuits or short circuits.

  3. If an optical fiber is connected, use an optical power meter to test the receive optical power of the port in the uplink direction of the fiber. Determine whether the fiber is broken based on the test result. In addition, test the transmit optical power of the port and determine whether the port sends traffic normally based on the test result.

Solution

If a network cable is connected, replace the network cable or RJ45 connector. If an optical fiber is connected, reroute the optical fiber or use a fiber splicer to repair the optical fiber.

Summary

There are high requirements on installation specifications in the installation implementation phase. After installing an AP, check the negotiated link rate to ensure link quality. The network planning baseline released currently contains the network cable acceptance test guide, which can be used as a reference for delivery personnel.
