[WLAN From Beginner to Expert — Common WLAN Delivery Cases] Lack of Heat Dissipation Design During AP Installation

180 0 0 0 0

Just as people need the right living environment, devices need the right operating environment. The device generates heat during operation and needs to dissipate heat. Otherwise, the device may overheat.

Let's take a look at a case.

Symptom

The internal temperature of an AP is too high, affecting the normal operation of the AP.

Fault Location

  • As shown in Figure 1, two central APs are stacked in the cabinet/rack and no space is reserved between them. This affects heat dissipation of the APs and may cause high temperature inside the APs.

  • As shown in Figure 2, you can check whether a fan is working properly by holding a piece of paper at the air exhaust vent of the fan. If the paper is blown by the wind, the fan is working properly. If the paper does not move, the fan is not working properly. In this case, check the fan.

Solution

  1. Reserve 1 U space between two APs in the cabinet/rack for heat dissipation. For details, see Installing the Device in a Cabinet/Rack.

  2. Rectify the fans in the cabinet/rack to ensure that the fans are working properly and the APs dissipate heat properly.

Summary

APs can work properly only when the ambient temperature is within a certain range. If the APs are stacked, the heat dissipation of the cabinet is abnormal, or the temperature in the equipment room is too high, the APs may be affected. Therefore, heat dissipation must be carefully considered during AP installation.
