Introduction of WLAN:
Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) are wireless connections in which an user can connect to LAN without being connected through wires. It uses certain protocols and CSMA/CA and uses encryption methods for privacy.
They provide fast data connectivity in little areas, such as an office or a building. WLANs allow users to walk around while keeping connected to the network in a confined space.
Wireless gadgets outnumber wired devices in today's world. Most offices had simply computers and a few additional network devices like printers about ten years ago. Wires were used to connect them all. Many people nowadays have a laptop, smartphone, or tablet.

Types of WLAN Protocols:
Wireless data transmissions, like any other network, are governed by protocols that define the network's type and function. The IEEE produced the 802.11 standard protocol, which then became the basis for WLAN protocols. Following are the types of protocols:
1. 802.11a Protocol
2. 802.11b Protocol
3. 802.11g Protocol
4. 802.11n Protocol
These protocols differ in the frequency and the bandwidth they operate on. Depending upon the frequency and bandwidth you want you can choose the type of protocol you want to set up.
Types of WLAN:
Depending upon the use, there are multiple types of WLANs. Types of WLAN are mentioned below:
1. WLANs: Wireless Local Area Networks
2. WPANs: Wireless Local Personal Networks
3. WMANs: Wireless Metropolitan Area Networks
4. WWANs: Wireless Wide Area Networks

Their categorization is based on their use. For instance, WPANS are networks such as your devices Bluetooth. WLANS can be your WIFI routers. WWANs are the connections through satellite.
In certain circumstances, wireless LAN technology is utilized to save money by avoiding the installation of cable, while in others, it is the only way to provide public access to high-speed internet. Wireless solutions are springing up everywhere for different reason.
