I have a Huawei HG8245Q2 router provided by my ISP (Fibrenest - UK) which provides both 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz WiFi. The 5Ghz network mostly works fine & most of my wireless devices are connected to this network however I am having frequent issues with the 2.4Ghz network which has approx 5 devices connected as they are not 5Ghz compatible.
The 2.4 network regularly drops internet connection for all devices connected to it at the same time, regardless of distance from the router. The connection drop usually lasts 10-20 mins but has occasionally lasted hours. When this happens I still have full signal on my devices.
To temporarily fix this I can go into the router settings & change the channel settings from 'Automatic' to 1, 6 or 11 which works for a while until the next drop, which I then change back to auto. The channel width is set to 'Auto 20/40 Mhz' but changing this doesn't resolve this issue either.
My house is detacted so I don't get much interference, if any, from neighbours networks. My neighbours also use the same model of routers as the housing developer has an exclusivity deal with my ISP.
I have contacted my ISP for support & they have just told me that 2.4Ghz isn't very reliable as devices can lose connection due to distance, walls, obstructing objects etc, however this is irrelevant to the issue I am getting as it is the internet connection which is dropping on this network not signal, even on devices nearby the router with clear line of sight. The sent me a replacement router but it has not resolved the issue.
Has anyone else had this experience, especially with a Huawei router? And is there anything deeper into the settings I can check or change to improve my connection? Or is this an issue for my ISP?
