Hello,
Today I would like to share with you what is MU-MIMO.
The Wi-Fi standard has been upgraded from IEEE 802.11ac Wave 1 to 802.11ac Wave 2 (that is, the 802.11ac 2.0 standard). The biggest change is the introduction of MU-MIMO technology. MU-MIMO really improves the utilization of network resources and realizes the quality of communication. The leap. Let's talk about what MU-MIMO is.
The dilemma of traditional SU-MIMO routers
The traditional SU-MIMO (Single-User Multiple-Input Multiple-Output, single-user MIMO) router can only communicate with one device at the same time. With the advent of the era of full connectivity, the number of Wi-Fi terminals continues to increase. MIMO routers can only communicate with Wi-Fi terminals one by one in turn. Each access device keeps grabbing resources, and the router is overwhelmed. As a result, everyone is slow and messed up.
In addition, routers usually have 3-4 antennas, while terminal access devices usually only have 1-2 antennas. Since SU-MIMO routers can only communicate with one Wi-Fi terminal at a time, it is difficult for all Wi-Fi terminals to communicate. Occupy all transmission channels, causing the router antenna to be idle.
What is MU-MIMO
MU-MIMO (Multi-User Multiple-Input Multiple-Output), that is, multi-user MIMO technology, allows the router to send data to multiple Wi-Fi terminals (up to 4) at the same time, and establish an independent for each client The "spatial flow" improves network resource utilization, so it is regarded by the industry as an innovative technology in the wireless development process. However, it should be noted that not only do routers need to support MU-MIMO, but Wi-Fi terminals also need to support MU-MIMO.

For example, the overall theoretical transmission rate of a router that currently supports IEEE 11ac 4*4 MU-MIMO can reach 1733Mbps. When it is connected and transmitted with a Wi-Fi terminal (1 antenna) that does not support MU-MIMO technology, the highest theoretical transmission rate The transmission rate is only 433Mbps, and the remaining 1.3Gbps capacity is idle at the same time; and if the router and Wi-Fi terminal support MU-MIMO technology, then this router can communicate with up to 4 Wi-Fi terminals at the same time connect and transmit so that the total capacity of the router is fully utilized.
The value of MU-MIMO
1. Improve network capacity and spectrum utilization.
Through MU-MIMO technology, the total network capacity of wireless routing can be effectively improved, which is usually 2-3 times higher than that in the SU-MIMO era.
2. To meet the large traffic demand of video and other applications.
Eliminate the idle capacity of the router through MU-MIMO, and make the data transmission in the network more efficient, so it can better meet the needs of video, audio, and other high-traffic applications.
3. Traditional Wi-Fi terminals can also benefit.
Due to the overall efficiency improvement brought by MU-MIMO, there is more idle time or capacity on the network to serve traditional Wi-Fi terminals (only SU-MIMO is supported), that is, the application of traditional Wi-Fi terminals The experience can be improved accordingly.
