5G & WiFi: A Perfect Combo!
Introduction
Cellular communication is rapidly evolving with an increase in demand for higher data rates and higher quality communication services and networks started to utilize its peak values, which always been a constant operational constraint for service providers.
This demand will further increase with 5G, as it promises better download speeds, extremely low latency performance, and reduced congestion on mobile networks
Data traffic levels are expected to almost double every year, thus far surpassing voice traffic.
Objectives
By offloading users from the 3G/4G/5G networks to Wi-Fi networks, mobile operators can add more capacity in an affordable and flexible way.
This idea is targeting for enhancement of not in Data only, but in VAS also.

Methodology
Wi-Fi offload(ing)/ 4G/3G data offloading or simply offloading, It is all about building a Wifi network parallel with the congested mobile data networks with additional capacity from unlicensed Wi-Fi spectrum.
Current Scenario
Proposed Scenario

WiFi Offloading with 3G/4G Networks
Procedure for Wifi Offloading
Subscriber activates service with a WiFi service provider (SP)
Subscriber configures the device to connect to WiFi SP
When in reach, the device connects to WiFi using the configured method
All data traffic sent to WiFi SP,
3GPP data session can be disconnected

Steps for connecting to the network for Wifi Offloading
Mobile Service Providers have CORE Layer, DISTRIBUTION Layer already … Just need ACCESS Layer to develop WiFi Hotspot.
5G & WiFi 6: Can we have the best of both worlds?
5G promises better download speeds, extremely low latency performance, and reduced congestion on mobile networks But 5G is expected to have inferior coverage issues inside the building due to its higher frequency.
So it will be best if MSPs start deploying indoor 5G solutions to expand coverage, install WiFi access points for mobile offload, which makes WiFi offloading even more compelling now.
Many countries are working on their Smart City and Internet of Things (IoT) initiatives, so it will be ideal to have excellent connectivity to achieve these goals.

Risk assessment
Wifi has less coverage area than cellular communication.
Wifi Access Points are connected with the network via Fiber Optic, so in case of a fiber cut, users will jump to a mobile network.
Licensing requirement needs to be checked with regulatory authorities.
Conclusion
5G and WiFi 6 are expected to intermingle seamlessly in future networks and Machine-to-machine communications will grow exponentially with more & more communication requirements.
WiFi offloading becomes inevitable as it will provide ubiquitous coverage, maintaining network availability and consumer demands.
