Hello guys,

My customer asked me a question which I think it is a little difficult for me. So I come to ask you guys advises.

The problem is he wants to know why we use hybrid rather than access port or trunk port? Do you guys have a real scenario in which only the hybrid is suitable?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @user_3445655,
Compared with access ports, hybrid port allows trffaic from more than one single VLAN, as compared with trunk port, hybrid allows multi VLANs’ traffic to pass through without carring VLAN tag.
Well, I didn’t find such real situation which is only suitable for the hybrid ports. But if multi devices which belong to different VLANs access to the same switch interface through a hub, in such scenario, I think the hybrid is the best choice.

Hi @user_3445655

If you have for example a server with both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, and you want to separate the traffic on the network using different vlans. In this case you could use protocol based vlans (ethertype-tag) on hybrid ports. Since they're carrying two untagged vlans no further configuration is necessary.
You can do the same with other (ARP, PPPoE, LLDP, etc) ethertypes as well.

Here you can find some examples with wireshark captures:
