Hi,

I'm just curiousity about in the RSTP, why the AP turns to RP immediately while the BP turns to DP will cost about 30 seconds in the RSTP port switching? Isn't BP the backup for DP?

Can you help to explain that?

Hi,
In the 802.1w, it describes the port role transitions state machine as ‘the previous role was DisabledPort, AlternatePort or BackupPort, the value of fdWhile will be equal to Fwd-Delay on entry to the state.’.
When a port transit from backup to designated port, it will cost 15s before the port role changing, and also, it will not turn to forwarding state after transiting to DP, another fdwhile will lapse before turn to forwarding state.
