Why is the mirrored traffic different from the actual traffic?

Possible reasons for the difference between mirrored traffic and actual traffic:

1. For Some models, outbound traffic mirroring can only copies known unicast packets, not supported for multicast, broadcast, and unknown unicast packets.

2. The mirroring operation is performed before other forwarding operations on the original packets. For example, if the DSCP value of the original packets needs to be changed, the copied packets are different from the original packets because they have been copied to the observing port before the change.

3. When port mirroring and traffic shaping (GTS) are configured on the interface, if there is a message on the interface that is discarded by GTS, the message mirrored by the port still contains those messages that were discarded by GTS.

4. If N:1 mirroring or multiple 1:1 mirroring configurations are implemented, mirrored packets may be lost.

5. If the mirrored traffic is greater than the bandwidth of the observing port, the device discards some traffic, so complete traffic cannot be mirrored.

6. Traffic filtering is configured on the observing port.

7. The filtering rules configured for mirroring match Ethernet packets only. After the mirrored packet filtering rule is configured, non-Ethernet packets are filtered out.

8. After the mirrored packet filtering rule is configured, non-Ethernet packets are filtered out.

9. If the deny parameter be configured during the traffic mirroring configuration, the packets matching the deny parameter can still be mirrored, but the original packets will be discarded.
