The following describes the possible causes resulting from the protocol layer:
The TTL value of the multicast data packet from the multicast source is too small or the multicast minimum-ttl configured on some device along the forwarding path is improper.
After receiving the multicast data packet, the device subtracts the TTL value in the packet header by 1 and recalculates the checksum. If the TTL value is 0 after subtraction, the device discards the packet; if the TTL value is not 0, the device forwards the packet to all the corresponding downstream interfaces based on forwarding entries. If the multicast minimum-ttl command is configured on the downstream interface, the packet is forwarded only when the TTL value in the packet header is greater than or equal to the configured minimum-ttl value. Otherwise, the packet is discarded.
To rectify the fault, follow the steps described below:
Run the debugging ip packet command to view the TTL value of the multicast data packet forwarded by the local device. If the command output shows that the TTL value of the multicast data packet from the multicast source is too small, you need to adjust it to a larger value. Run the display multicast minimum-ttl command to view the minimum-ttl configured on the downstream interface. If the command output shows that the configured minimum-ttl is improper, adjust the minimum-ttl to a smaller value or remove the configuration about the minimum-ttl.
