When PIM-SM is run on the entire network and devices prepare to join the SPT to the multicast source, the (S, G) entry is created only on the device that has a route to the multicast source. Conversely, if no route to the multicast source exists or the RPF interface to the multicast source is not enabled with PIM-SM, the (S, G) entry cannot be created.

The existence of the unicast route to the multicast source is a prerequisite for the creation of PIM routing entries. Multicast forwarding succeeds only when unicast routes are reachable.

Solution: Check configurations about uinicast routes or configure a static multicast route to ensure that the unicast route to the multicast source exists.
