When use command reboot -nf  to restart the VM. it's probability that the VM stops responding.

Responding failure of the SUSE 11 SP3 VM

In the process that the VM is forcibly restarted, the kernel waits for a long time while the CPU is being stopped, causing many interruptions and service processing failures. As a result, the VM stops responding. This is a defect of disable_nonboot_cpus. This defect exists in baseline kernel versions of SUSE 11 SP3 and all the errata kernel versions, that is, versions later than 3.0.76-0.11.

Based on the call trace information, it can be confirmed that the VM stops responding when the kernel invokes the native_cpu_die command after the internal reboot -nf command is sent. For details, see the following figure.

Run the destroy command on the host to shut down the VM and restart it.

For example, integrate kernel source codes of the 3.0.76-0.11 kernel version dedicated to SUSE 11 SP3 into patches, and substitute the defective kernel to resolve the problem. The patches are as follows:

cpu_c.patchcpu_h.patchsys.patch
