Dear all,

What the the difference between DWDM : SNCP and OLP protection. What are the benefits of each. Which is best ?

Hi dear,
SNCP is several types like:-
-ODUK SNCP
-MS SNCP
-Trinutary SNCP
-SW SNCP
But they share using ODU level , when service reaches cross connect boards it becomes in ODU Level and the cross connect makes the split for the ODU services to dual fed and forward the received signal .
But there are so many details about SNCP protection . This is only some .
Good luck

Hi,
OLP optical line protection board is just a dual-fed sending selective receiving .
It can be used in many positions :-
- in client level .
- in OTU level
-in OMS level
-in OTS level
It split the signal into 2 signals then u can send it to 2 directions .
In receiving u got the signal from the 2 directions u have sent them through then the OLP takes the best according to the best power level .
The benefits is that OLP cheap and doesnt need any special boards like cross connect and doesnt need special protocol .
The disadvantages is that it is just makes power comparison , not error or quality comparison .

SNCP
Needs special boards like Cross connect , line boards , tributary boards .
And it is used in ODU level .
But the traffic change depends on signal quality .
So it is better technology

Well explained, thanks a lot
Also can you explained " And it is used in ODU level " in detail

My obervation is like this-someone correct me if i am wroing

OLP is nothing but a optical spilter

1. Could use for all wavelengh protection after the FIU without using another set of amplifer or MUX/DMUX board
2. Could use for single wavelengh protection after the Line card port/muxponder port without using another line card port. need to maintain same wavelength both active standby path.

Disadvantages; power level of active and standby needs to maintain at certain value. Frequent manual tunning is needed in case frequent fiber cut/high loss sceanario.

Advantages: less expensive

SNCP:
1 separate line ports for active and standby link
2. separate wavelength for active and standby link
3. switching within 50ms-reliable
4. frequent tunning is not needed
5 superb performance in failover scenario

Disadvantages: double cost

Regarding OLP you are 100% correct .
Regarding SNCP the cross connect separate signal into 2 ODU signal then u need 2 line boards to send into 2 direction .
U can think about ODU like VC4 in SDH , if u use SNCP in SDH u make cross connect in vc4 level send signal into 2 line boards at the same time .
Ok
