  Rewarded Hi-coins: 0 (problem resolved)

As the Cisco 2960 has been used for too long, and we are planning to replace it with huawei s5720. the previous c2960 worked as a access switch, it connects to the core switch with two links, there is no aggregation switch, what should I pay attentation to when replace the switch?
appreciated for any suggestions.

@user_3357111 hi!

Most importantly, please check which STP protocol is used on a Cisco switch.

By default, Cisco switches run PVST+, while Huawei switches run MSTP - these two protocols are imcompatible (actually, they can work in compatibility in a specific enviroment), so you should reconfigure the Cisco switch to run the MSTP.

Alternatively, you can reconfigure the Huawei switch to run the VBST, which is compatible with PVST+.

Hi there, mate!
As @chenhui described VBST - Please, also take into account the quantity of VLANs that can be used with VBST. Huawei switches can provide the limited amount of VBST instances - it actually depends on the switch platform. So - if you are run out of 128 VBST instances (VLANS) - you should consider the Q-in-Q or Vlan translation model for cooperation/replacing other vendors switches.

Take care!

And last but not the least to make sure STP priority is reduced on new switch than core switch, usually in good design they define less priority in CORE same as vlan ID :). Better put "root guard" on core switch downstream port.

Thank you.

Kindest regards,
Uzair
