After the synchronous connection is established with the clock source in NTP, a one-time interaction is required after each poll interval (64s to 1024s). If the interaction fails, the relevant information is recorded into the 8-bit shift register, namely, the reachability register. When the reachability register is 0, the synchronization is lost; if the connection is dynamic, the connection is deleted.
Therefore, unsynchronization will occur if network breakdown occurs or certain configuration, such as the maximum number of dynamic connections, authentication code, or time of the clock source, is changed. Note that the unsynchronization is not caused immediately but after a certain period, mostly after eight poll intervals.
