Q: What is the directory function of Huawei IP phones?
A: eSpace 7910/7950/8950 allows users to query contact information in the directory, including the profile picture, name, department, and phone number. eSpace 7910/7950/8950 displays the search result returned from the server after a user enters the search criteria on the directory screen. Users can further perform operations on the search result, for example, querying details of a searched contact, saving a searched contact to the local address book, and directly calling a searched contact. eSpace 8950 IP phone supports the tree-structured directory. You can tap the department list under the directory and find the department for the contact you want to search for. This approach helps you quickly find the desired contact.
eSpace IP phone allows you to configure and use an LDAP directory. Using the LDAP directory, the IP phone can search for a contact, search for the calling party's information, and search for user dialed numbers.
For more information about the directory function, click More or log in to https://support.huawei.com/enterprise/en/index.html, search for the user guide or administrator guide of corresponding model, and view sections about the directory.

LDAP Directory
Based on X.500, LDAP is an application protocol for accessing and maintaining distributed directory information services through the TCP/IP protocol stack. It allows users to quickly obtain static data about people or resources.
LDAP is applicable to storage of data that needs to be obtained in different locations but does not change frequently. According to its applicable data type, LDAP is a good choice for storing the enterprise organizational structure and the phone numbers of enterprise employees.
eSpace IP phone supports the following LDAP directory functions (here, eSpace 7900 is used as an example):
l Searching for a contact: On the directory screen, enter your search terms and press the Search softkey, the IP phone will search for matching contacts from the LDAP server and display the contact information. Then, you can select a contact and place a call or save the contact to your local contact list.
l Search for the calling party's information: After receiving a call, the IP phone searches the local contact list for the calling number. If no records are found, the IP phone searches the LDAP server for the contact and displays the search result on its LCD screen.
l Searching for user dialed numbers: On the predial or dial screen, each time you press a number key, the IP phone searches the contact list for that number. If no records are found, the IP phone searches the LDAP server when the dial time expires and displays the search result on its LCD screen.
