What is SDH? Why do need to SDH Protocol? Which Boards support SDH?
SDH: Synchronous Digital Hierarchy
SDH is a transmission protocol that used with high Speed and high Capacity optical telecommunication systems for digital signals involved of
a) Frame Structure
b) Multiplexing Method
c) Digital rates hierarchy
d) Interface Code Pattern
According to ITU_T SS“International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Section . The Bit Rate of the Lowest Level SDH Signal “Base Signal “= 155.520 Mb/s which is known as STM-1 “Synchronous Transport Module -1 “
Mb/s = Mega bit per second
STM-1 = 155.520 Mb/s
STM-4 = 4* 155.520 Mb/s
STM-N = N* 155.520 Mb/s

MADM : Multiple Add/Drop Multiplexer
IDU : Indoor-Unit
ODU : Outdoor-Unit
STM-1 : Synchronous Transport Module -1
PLA : Physical link Aggregation
AM : Adaptive Modulation
Why do need to SDH Protocol? Because we in need of
· A variety of telecommunication Service
· Networks able to transmit , Switch and Process a large of amount of information
· Networks digital ,integrated, intelligent and Personalized
Which Boards Support SDH?
The ISU2, ISX2, ISV3 and ISM6 boards that work in SDH mode to support transmission of one STM-1
1- ISU2 : Universal IF board
ü Provides one IF port
ü Supports modulation schemes from QPSK to 256 QAM.
ü Supports integrated IP microwave and SDH microwave using the Native E1+Ethernet, Native STM-1+Ethernet, or SDH service mode.
ü Supports the AM “Adaptive Modulation “function.
AM is used to automatically adjust the modulation mode according to the channel quality. When the channel quality is favorable, the equipment uses a high-efficiency modulation mode to improve the transmission efficiency and the spectrum utilization of the system. When the channel quality is degraded, the equipment uses the low-efficiency modulation mode to improve the anti-interference capability of the link that carries high-priority services.
ü Supports air-interface bandwidth acceleration (Ethernet frame header compression).
ü Supports the PLA “ Physical link Aggregation “ Function :
PLA combines Ethernet transmission paths in several Integrated IP radio links into a logical Ethernet link for higher Ethernet bandwidth and Ethernet transmission reliability.

2- ISX2 : Universal XPIC IF board
ü Provides one IF port
ü Supports modulation schemes from QPSK to 256 QAM.
ü Supports integrated IP microwave and SDH microwave using the Native E1+Ethernet, Native STM-1+Ethernet, or SDH service mode.
ü Supports the XPIC function.
ü Supports the AM function.
ü Supports air-interface bandwidth acceleration (Ethernet frame header compression).
ü Supports the PLA function.

3- ISV3 : Versatile IF Board
ü Provides one IF port.
ü Supports multiple IF running modes:
- IS3 Board : The highest-order modulation mode is 2048 QAM. When working in IS3 mode, ISV3 boards can interconnect with each other or with RTN 905s.
PS : When we work at a Channel Spacing 3.5 MHZ, The ISV3 Boards can be interconnected only
- IS2 Board : The highest-order modulation mode is 256QAM. When working in IS2 mode, ISV3 boards can interconnect with ISU2/ISX2 boards.
ü Supports integrated IP microwave and SDH microwave using the Native E1+Ethernet, Native STM-1+Ethernet, or SDH service mode.
ü Supports the XPIC function
Cross-polarization interference cancellation (XPIC)
A technology used in the case of the Co-Channel Dual Polarization (CCDP) to eliminate the cross-connect interference between two polarization waves in the CCDP.
ü Supports the AM function
ü Supports air-interface bandwidth acceleration (Ethernet frame header compression) And enhanced Ethernet frame compression (payload compression).
ü Supports AES256-based encryption at air interfaces.
ü Supports the PLA function.
ü Supports the EPLA “Enhanced Physical Link Aggregation “ or EPLA+

4- ISM6 : Two Channel Versatile IF Board
ü Provides two IF ports. The two IF ports can be used together or independently.
ü Supports multiple IF running modes:
- IS6 Board : The highest-order modulation mode is 4096 QAM. The maximum Channel spacing is 112 MHz (in this case, the highest-order Modulation mode is 512QAM).
- IS3 Board : The highest-order modulation mode is 2048 QAM. When working in IS3 mode, ISM6 boards can interconnect with ISV3 boards
- IS2 Board : The highest-order modulation mode is 256 QAM. When working in IS2 mode, ISM6 boards can interconnect with ISU2/ISX2 boards.
ü Supports integrated IP microwave and SDH microwave using the Native E1+Ethernet, Native STM-1+Ethernet, or SDH service mode.
ü Supports 1+1 protection for two intra-board IF channels.
ü Supports XPIC for two intra-board IF channels.
ü Supports 1+1 protection for inter-board XPIC groups.
ü Supports intra-board PLA and EPLA or EPLA+.and AM Function
