Hello. Team!

What is MapReduce?

I am an ICT student, and learning about big data.

I saw MapReduce on the learning material, but I don't know what it is.

Can you give me a brief introduction?

Thank you very much!

Hi, Freaks! You want to know what is MapReduce?

I can give you a brief account of what I know about MapReduce.

MapReduce is a programming model that simplifies parallel computing.

The name is derived from two core operations in the model: Map and Reduce

  • Map divides a task into multiple tasks.

  • Reduce summarizes the results of multiple tasks after decomposition and obtains the final analysis result.

MapReduce is a computing model, framework and platform for parallel processing of Big Data.

It has the following three meanings:

1. MapReduce is a high-performance parallel computing platform (Cluster Infrastructure) based on clusters. It allows for a distributed and parallel computing cluster consisting of dozens, hundreds to thousands of nodes, using common commercial technology support engineers in the market.

2. MapReduce is a parallel computing and running software framework (Software Framework). It provides a large but well-designed parallel computing software framework that automatically performs parallel processing of computing tasks, automatically divides computing data and computing tasks, automatically allocates and executes tasks on cluster nodes, and collects calculation results, in parallel computing, such as data distribution storage, data communication and fault tolerance processing, complex details of many system underlying layers are handled by the system, greatly reducing the burden of software developers.

3. MapReduce is a parallel program design model and method (Programming Model & Methodology). It provides a simple parallel program design method based on the design idea of the functional programming language Lisp. It uses the Map and Reduce functions to implement basic parallel computing tasks and provides abstract operations and parallel programming interfaces, simple and convenient to complete large-scale data programming and computing processing.
