Hello, everyone!
Today's topic is the very popular DQ ODN. Telecommunication operators are increasingly using DQ ODN. This technology is mostly used in AirPON solutions but can be applied much more widely, for many FTTx PON solutions. Let's get acquainted with this technology!
DQ ODN stands for Digital Quick Optical Distribution Network. To repeat, as many times before, each PON system consists of:
OLT (Optical Line Terminal),
ODN (Optical Distribution Network) or DQ ODN and
ONU (Optical Netowork Unit).
ODN consists of three segments: optical feeder cable - from CO, headend (ODF – Optical Distribution Frame) or outdoor/remote OLT to the optical distribution point (FAT – Fiber Access Terminal), distribution optical cable - from the optical distribution point to optical access point, and the last segment is drop optical cable - from the optical distribution point to ATB (Access Terminal Box)or ONU.
DQ ODN, unlike the classic ODN, uses optical cables with factory-installed optical connectors in all network segments. The capacities, ie the number of optical fibers, of the optical cable differ. Feeder optical cable can have 12 or 24 optical fibers, and this optical cable use outdoor MPO/MTP (Multi-fiber Push-On/Multi-fiber Termination Push-on) optical connectors with special IPprotectors. Distribution and drop optical cables have fewer optical fibers and typically use specially designed SC optical connectors.
For AirPON solutions, DQ ODN is usually composed of these optical cables:
Dual-end QuickConnect MPO feeder cable,
Dual-end QuickConnect Single-core distribution cable, and
Single-end QuickConnect single-core drop cable.
All optical connectors are specially designed with appropriate IP protection to prevent the ingress of water, moisture, and dust.
The use of DQ ODN solutions significantly reduces network implementation time. No special tools are required and no specially trained staff are required to work with the optical equipment. These are very important advantages.
At the International Fair in Amsterdam (BBWF 2021), Huawei received a prestigious award for this solution.
This is the end of this topic. I hope you learned something new!
Thank you!
