Hello, everyone!
What is backup?
Backup is the process of copying data to a dump device. A dump device is a tape or disk used to store data copies. When a system is faulty or data loss occurs, the data copy stored in dump devices can be used to restore the system or data.
The FusionSphere virtualization suite offers the following DR plans: metropolitan active-active DR, array-based replication DR, and two-site and three-center DR. It also offers the VM backup and user data backup plans. Customers can choose these plans based on service requirements.
The metropolitan active-active DR plan allows two sites far from each other to use the HyperMetro feature of the Huawei V3, V5, or Dorado series storage and the HA and dynamic resource scheduler (DRS) functions of FusionCompute to implement DR. The two sites (production sites) provide services and serve as redundancy sites for each other.
The array-based replication DR scheme is implemented by creating two sites, a production site and a DR site, at two places, using the remote replication function of storage devices to copy the VM data from the production site to the DR site, and using the DR management software UltraVR to register the VMs on the DR storage at the DR site with a hypervisor and automatically start the VMs.
The VM backup plan uses Huawei eBackup combined with the FusionCompute snapshot backup function and the CBT backup function to back up VM data. Working together with FusionCompute, eBackup can back up a specific object based on the configured policy. When a VM is faulty or its data is lost, the VM can be restored using the backup data. The backup data is stored on the shared storage devices connected to eBackup. The snapshot-based backup and CBT-based backup support full backup and incremental backup.
What is the backup server?
1. Backup software: Create a backup policy. Management media platform; Function expansion platform: The backup software is the core of the backup system and is used to make and manage copies of production data on storage media. Expanded backup software enables additional capabilities such as protection, backup, archiving, and recovery.
2. Backup media: tape library; Disk array; Virtual tape library (VTL): Virtual tape library (VTL) is a hardware device of a disk array, but can virtualize disk storage into a tape library. Compared with mechanical tapes, VTL uses tape backup management software and traditional backup processes, greatly improving availability and reliability.
3. Backup server: backup software installation platform; Provides services for backup policy execution: The backup server provides an environment where backup software runs. Generally, the backup software client agent needs to be installed on the service host to be backed up.
How do backups work in cloud computing?
As time and data grow, backup is particularly important. Currently, Commvault Simpana and Huawei eBackup are available.
How to configure backup server on FusionSphere.
1. In the navigation pane, click .
The System page is displayed.
2. Choose System > System Configuration > Services and Management Nodes.
The Services and Management Nodes page is displayed.
3. In the Service List area, locate the row that contains VRM service, click More, and choose Configure Management Data Backup.
A dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1 Configure Management Data Backup
Select Back up to a 3rd-party FTP server or local VRM node and set the following parameters:
Protocol Type: You are advised to select FTPS to enhance file transmission security. If the FTP server does not support the FTPS protocol, select FTP. If no FTP server is used, select SCP (the data backup does not include monitoring data).
IP Address: Enter the IP address of the third-party FTP server or host.
Username: Enter the username for logging in to the third-party FTP server or host. If data is backed up to a host, the default username is gandalf, which cannot be changed.
Password: Enter the password for logging in to the third-party FTP server or host.
Port: Enter the SCP port used by the third-party FTP server or host.
If SCP is selected, perform the following steps to query the port number and then enter the query result:
a. Use PuTTY to log in to the host used for backup.
b. Run the following command and enter the password of the root user to switch to the root user:
su - root
c. Run the following command to disable user logout upon system timeout:
d. Run the following command to query the port number of the SSH service:
For example, if "Server listening on 192.168.26.10 port 22." is displayed in the command output, the host SCP port number is 22.
Backup Path: Enter the relative path in which the backup files are stored. If data is backed up to a host, the directory is /opt/backupdb, which cannot be changed.
5. Click Confirm.

1. What is VBS?
Volume Backup Service (VBS) creates backups of Elastic Volume Service (EVS) disks and allows for restoration from backups, ensuring data security and accuracy.

2. What is CSBS?
Cloud Server Backup Service (CSBS) can create a backup for an ECS (Elastic Cloud Server) and BMS (Bare Metal Server) (including the configuration specifications of the ECS and BMS, and data on system and data disks), and restore the service data of the ECS and BMS by using the backup data. This service ensures the security and correctness of the data.
ECSs and BMSs are referred to as servers in this document.

3. What is CSDR?
Cloud Server Disaster Recovery (CSDR) provides remote disaster recovery protection for Elastic Cloud Servers (ECSs) and Bare Metal Servers (BMSs). Once the production center encounters a disaster, ECSs and BMSs protected by CSDR can be restored in the remote DR center.
CSDR supports three protection types:
When the protection type is CSDR, remote DR protection can be provided for ECSs and BMSs. If the production center fails in a disaster, the protected ECSs and BMSs can be recovered in the remote DR center.
When the protection type is VHA+CSDR and a single storage device in the production center is faulty, no data is lost and services are not interrupted. If the production center fails in a disaster, the protected ECSs and BMSs can be recovered in the remote DR center.
When the protection type is CSHA+CSDR and the production center is faulty, services can be automatically or manually switched to the intra-city DR center to recover the protected ECSs without data loss. If the production center and intra-city DR center fail in a disaster, the protected ECSs can be recovered in the remote DR center.

4. What is CSHA?
Cloud Server High Availability (CSHA) provides High Availability protection for Elastic Cloud Servers (ECSs) across data centers in one city. When a disaster occurs in the production center, the protected ECSs can be automatically or manually switched to the disaster recovery (DR) center.
