The type-of-service (ToS) field in an OSPF LSA was originally intended for Quality of Service (QoS) routing. To put it simply, with different ToS values, links can be configured with different costs to achieve ToS-based routing. That is, IP packets with the same destination IP address but different ToS values are routed differently. In RFC 2328, however, this application is obsoleted and only ToS 0 is supported. That is, packets are routed based on destination IP addresses only.

Currently, the router supports only ToS 0.
