HiCoins as reward: 0 (problem unresolved)

hi all,

i would like to ask which one is better for High Availabily VRRP or virtual cluster of a enterprise switch ?  i read that vrrp has problem of last sessions  pick up during fail over. can any one recommend which solution i should go for ?

Hi friend!
This is definitely recommended VRRP. If the link between devices in a VRRP group fails, the VRRP group performs an active/standby switchover only after three times the interval at which VRRP Advertisement packets are sent. During this period, data may be lost. To prevent this issue, run the vrrp vrid bfd command to create a VRID-based dynamic BFD session for the VRRP group. The BFD session then monitors the link status in real time. When the BFD session detects a link fault and goes Down, the BFD module immediately instructs the VRRP module to perform a rapid active/standby.

hi enya90,

Virtual cluster cannot only be used to expand the capacity of routers on the live network and increase their forwarding capacity. It can also be used to replace the traditional two-node cluster protection, thereby greatly simplifying network design, in turn reducing network O&M manpower and costs.
VRRP offers the following benefits to carriers:

Reliable transmission: A logical VRRP gateway on a multicast or broadcast local area network (LAN), such as an Ethernet network, ensures reliable transmission over key links. VRRP helps prevent service interruptions if a link to a physical VRRP gateway fails.
Flexible applications: A VRRP header is encapsulated into an IP packet. This implementation allows the association between VRRP and various upper-layer protocols.
Low network overheads: VRRP uses only VRRP Advertisement packets.
VRRP offers the following benefits to users:
Simplified configurations: Users only need to specify a gateway address without configuring routing protocols on their hosts.
Improved user experience: Users are not aware of a single point of failure.

I suggest VRRP

thankyou for your reply.  i wanna ask does vrrp has issue for last session pick up when doing failover ? like in cluster every configuration is sync between both nodes. what u do at primary node , it replicates to secondary.  in vrrp can we do this ?

Hi

Traditional campus networks use device and link redundancy to ensure high reliability. However, this brings about problems, such as low link efficiency and high network maintenance costs. To solve these problems, Cluster Switch System CSS technology is used to virtualize two physical switches into one logical switch, simplifying network deployment and reducing network maintenance costs. CSS offers the following advantages:

Application Scenarios

As shown in Figure 1-2, two switches set up a CSS and are virtualized into a single logical switch. This simplified network does not require the Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) or Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP), so network configuration is much simpler. You can log in to the CSS from either CSS member to configure and manage all CSS members.

In addition, CSS is a widely used horizontal virtualization technology that simplifies configuration and management, expands bandwidth, and implements inter-chassis link redundancy.
