- You must know that we use the VPN for such a need if you want to work on an access blocked web site, or if you want to connect the branches of your company to each other and the distance is far, or if you want to work remote access from your home or from anywhere on any branch of your company, or if you want to make a connection Secure and ensure that no one interferes, not even a hacker, or changes the IP address and takes an IP. - There are two basic types of VPN which are Layer 2 and Layer 3 :
1- For Layer 2 VPN, it is that I open the tunnel in which the data goes in the form of a Layer 2 protocol with Ethernet, for example, and the two devices are connected or more than two devices provided they are in the same subnetwork and the connection between them is through the Layer 2 switch and they are almost in the same area and the connection is on The LAN level, of course, this is done at the data link level.
2- With regard to Layer 3 VPN, the tunnel is encrypted data, but in the form of Layer 3, meaning IP packets, and the connected devices are not in the same subnetworks, here the traffic passes through the public network on network layer 3 and it has more advantages, but it is more complex.
