Today, I'd like to share a case with you.
Problem Description
There is one new VPLS service configured between OSN 8800 and 9800. After configuration, it is found on 9800 the running status showing down.
Problem Analysis
1. Checking the tunnel status, it is normal, and make OAM ping test, also it is ok. It can be proved tunnel is working normally.
2. Check LSR ID, port IP configuration, no abnormal found either. Check alarm on NE, no related alarms about VPLS service.
3. Check UNI port status, it is found the UNI port is not connected yet, and it is down.
4. Confirmed for VPLS service on 9800, if UNI port is down, the running status on VSI will showdown.
5. To confirm this, make an in-loop on the VSI port. It is showing normal status then.
Root Cause
on OSN 9800, VPLS service status will show down if the UNI port is down. On 8800 does not support this status.
Solution Description
If want to check the VPLS service on the NNI side is right or not when the UNI port is disconnected can check the OAM ping for tunnel and PW. Or if both end ports are not connected yet, can make an in-loop on the UNI port to refresh the VPLS service status to see if it is normal.
