VoLTE Optimization.

The VoLTE optimization process begins with a set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) used to track the performance of the VoLTE service.

There is a wide range of indicators for evaluating the performance of the audio or video transmission service through the LTE network, and they can be classified at more than one level,

  • We find that there is a set of KPI's that are extracted from the IMS network responsible for managing voice or video calls

  • Including KPI’s that are extracted from the LTE core network such as PGW or SGW devices or from MME

  • And finally, KPI's from Radio network such as eNB.

The performance indicators used to evaluate the VoLTE service may differ from one mobile company to another, but there are general indicators that are used in all mobile companies, such as:

  • The success rate of CSSR voice calls comes from IMS, specifically from TAS or S-CSCF systems, by dividing the number of successful and naturally terminated calls by the total number of attempts to make calls.

  • Call establishment time CST, which is the time it takes for the caller to reach the bell, and it comes from IMS, specifically from TAS or S-CSCF systems. It refers to the delay in making calls, which gives a bad impression on customers and may cause an increase in the failure rate of calls.

  • The success rate of mobile devices registration in IMS (RSR) comes from P-CSCF in the IMS network, and it refers to the success rate of the registration process in S-CSCF, which is executed at the start of operating the mobile devices, and calls are not made or received until after the success of the registration process.

  • The rate of mute calls or one-way calls These are calls that succeed in signaling until the other party receives the call, but the RTP stream is not transmitted in both directions or one direction for a certain period of time.

  • VoLTE bearers success rate (create bearer success rate) is extracted from PGW/SGW and indicates a Volte communication success rate as QCI1.

  • The paging success rate is extracted from the MME and indicates the success of sending and replying to a paging message from UE mobile devices.

  • The VoLTE call drop rate is extracted from eNB.

  • The success rate of calls from 4G to 2/3G using the SRVCC feature is extracted from eNB or MME. It indicates the success of completing voice calls on the 2/3G network in case of a lack of 4G network coverage.

After knowing the performance indicators, the work of the Optimization team begins to transmit them, indicate the reasons for the KPI’s deficiencies, if any, solve network problems and improve the performance of services.

Thank you.
