Hello Everyone,
I would like to share with you the procedure for software update of NetEngine 8000-M8 equipment. For the software versions for this equipment, see the following post:
https://forum.huawei.com/enterprise/en/software-request-download-netengine-8000-m8/thread/782875-861
Before we start, we need to understand what the impacts and precautions we should have when performing a software version upgrade.
Impacts:
The services will be stopped after the update is complete and the router will restart. If the router is not configured, the reboot will take about 10 minutes. However, if it is configured, the time needed to restart the device depends on the size of the configuration file.
Precautions:
Before the update: Ensure that logs are being saved so that update operations are recorded. If an error occurs in the update process, we can identify the cause and solution for it. Before starting the upgrade, validate that all cards are properly registered, and CPU and memory consumption of the equipment. If it is above 80%, do not start the procedure as this may result in a slow upgrade or failure.
During update: Do not turn off or reset the equipment, do not insert or remove as boards.
After update: After the upgrade is complete, ensure all boards are registered, and all services are operating normally.
Checking the operating status of the equipment:

Checking the operation status of IPUs (Control boards)
Display device command

If Unregistered is shown in the “register” field, the card in the slot is not registered. If abnormal is shown in the Status field, the card in the slot is not working properly. If a board does not register or malfunctions, run the display board-reset command in diagnostic view to identify the cause
Viewing the status of service cards:

The Init_result and Logic_down fields of all cards must be "SUCCESS"
Our equipment is able to go through a software update process. In the next post I will show the procedure to access the equipment, download the software file, and update the software version of the equipment.
See you
