This topic describes how to configure boards in the web management system based on the actual hardware configuration. After the boards are configured, you can perform operations such as number allocation and trunk configuration.
Context
Board | Device Model | Description |
|---|---|---|
CVP | U1910/U1930 |
|
ASI | U1910/U1911/U1930/U1960/U1981 | An ASI board connects the unified gateway to plain old telephone service (POTS) phones. Each ASI board supports a maximum of 32 POTS phones. |
OSU | U1910/U1911/U1930/U1960/U1981 | An OSU board connects the unified gateway to POTS phones or analog trunks. Each OSU board supports a maximum of 12 POTS phones or analog trunks. |
SCU | U1911/U1960/U1981 | A Service Control Unit (SCU) board functions as a softswitch. It processes media control protocols and provides Layer 2 (L2) and time division multiplexing (TDM) switch functions. An SCU board supports single-network-port, dual-network-port, and triple-network-port working modes. |
MTU | U1911/U1960/U1981 | An MTU board provides digital trunk access for connection to the upper-level office through digital trunks. It also provides digit collection, announcement playing, recording, conferencing, TDM-to-VoIP conversion, and T.30-to-T.38 fax functions. |
BTU | U1911/U1960/U1981 | A BTU board provides digital trunk access. Each BTU board provides four BRI S/T ports and supports eight voice channels. |
SMCU | U1980 | Supports the following functions:
|
MRS | U1980 | Is a mandatory board and provides the following functions:
|
DTU4/DTU8 | U1980 | Provides digital trunk access for connecting to the digital trunk of the upper-layer office. |
Scenario Description
This section describes how to configure a board to meet the following requirements. In actual scenarios, performed the operations as planned.
Configure the OSU board in slot 2 of the U1960.
Procedure
- Log in to the web management system. For details, see Logging In to the Web Management System.
- Choose .
- Click Refresh to refresh the
information on the page.http://localhost:7890/pages/DEE0403M/21/DEE0403M/21/resources/public_sys-resources/icon-note.gif NOTE:When configuring boards, click Refresh first to ensure that the unified gateway board configuration is the same as the actual hardware configuration. Otherwise, configuration may fail to be delivered.
- Click Slot2 and select OSU Board from the drop-down list box, as shown in
Figure 1.Figure 1 Configuring a board on the U1960
http://localhost:7890/pages/DEE0403M/21/DEE0403M/21/resources/U1900/cfgg/images/en1960.pngThe Prompt dialog box is displayed, indicating that the board in slot 2 is configured.
- Click OK.
When a board is configured, the system automatically loads the board configuration information; therefore, you do not need to Click OK.

The number of VMS channels refers to the license capacity, that is, the number of calls being concurrently forwarded to mailboxes. To check the license, see Verification. - In the Parameter configuration area, set Transmission mode and Transcoding codec and click OK.Table 2 describes the key parameters displayed on the page. For detailed description about the parameters, see the Web Management System Online Help.

Description
DTU Module
Indicates the switch of the digital trunk module. If you need to configure E1/T1 trunks on the U1910/U1930, select On; otherwise, select Off.
Transmission mode
The unified gateway supports the E1 and T1 modes, but does not support mixed use of the two modes. The PRA and QSIG trunks support the E1 and T1 modes. Other narrowband trunks support only the E1 mode.
NOTE:If T1 is used as the transmission mode of PRA or QSIG trunks, on the E1/T1 port controller of the CVP board (U1910/U1930), MTU board (U1911/U1960/U1981), or DTU4 board (U1980), remove or insert the jumper caps (total eight behind the panel) to adjust to the Balance mode. Otherwise, T1 trunks will be unavailable.
Transcoding codec
When selecting ALAW or ULAW as the codec, ensure that the configuration is the same as the configuration of the peer device; otherwise, the call quality between users of the local and peer devices will be affected.
Transmission mode and Transcoding codec are two independent parameters. Specifically, the transcoding codec ALAW or ULAW can be selected regardless of whether the transmission mode is E1 or T1. Generally, the transcoding codec is set to ALAW when the transmission mode is E1 and set to ULAW when the transmission mode is T1. The actual configurations are based on site requirements.
- Click Data Save in the upper right corner of the web management system.
