Hello, everyone!

Today, I'd like to share a case with you.

Product Model: U2000

Problem Description

Customer needs to upgrade the current T2000 NMS to the U2000 NMS. The NMS server runs the Windows operating system. During the U2000 installation after the T2000 NMS and database are uninstalled, the system reports that the SQL database fails to be installed. The operator then uninstalls and deletes the related installation files, and then installs only the SQL Server database. The system reports that the installation program fails to configure the server. More information can be obtained from the error logs on the server and the c:\windows\sqlstp.log file

Problem Analysis

The problem may be related to the following:

1. The database of the T2000 NMS is not completely uninstalled.

2. The ODBC data source of the registry is damaged during the uninstallation.

3. Other related information in the registry is damaged

Root Cause

The registry is damaged.

Solution Description

1. After the installation files for the SQL Server database and the related information in the registry are completely uninstalled, the U2000 still cannot be installed. The following methods can be used to uninstall the files:

a. Delete the SQL installation directory (back up the directory if it contains important data): C:\MSSQL2000\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools. C:\MSSQL2000\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.

b. Delete the related information from the registry. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSDTC.

c. Delete PendingFileRenameOperations from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager.

d. Delete some of the files in ExceptionComponents in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\setup. The folder may contain many files. Delete the files in this folder only if the above methods do not work. Learn the content description before the deleting. Do not delete all the files.

2. Use the odbcxhf tool to recover the ODBC data in the registry. The problem still persists.

3. Import the file in the attachment to the registry to recover the registry. Then the U2000 can be successfully installed.
