How can 5G be realized using the FTTH PON solution? What are all the possibilities of using FTTH?

Has FTTH PON been used somewhere for the 5G transport network?

Hello Vlada85!

PON: A PON (passive optical network) is an optical access network in which an ODN (optical line terminal) between an OLT (optical network unit) and an ONU (optical network unit) uses passive devices.

PON is a point-to-multipoint (P2MP) optical access system. This feature saves optical fiber resources. The ODN does not require a power supply, facilitates user access, and supports multi-service access. It is a broadband optical access technology promoted by carriers. It mainly includes EPON and GPON technologies.

FTTH: A fiber-based networking scenario. The FTTH scenario provides the following services: asymmetric broadband services (digital broadcast service, VoD, file download, and online gaming), symmetric broadband services (content broadcast, email, file exchange, distance education, and distance medical care), POTS, and ISDN services.

Currently, FTTH PON is not applied to 5G networks or transport networks.

As far as I know, FTTH PON is mainly used for broadband services and is not deployed on 5G mobile networks. It can be technically implemented but will not be deployed for cost reasons.

AirPON - Transforming a mobile operator into a full-service operator requires FTTH network construction.

Regarding 5G, Its wireless access broadband technology.

We are can use to provide both of these technologies (5G & FTTH using AirPON) for better customer experience

- Using infrastructure & connectivity of 5G sites, deploy FTTH (AirPON) fastly

- AirPON FTTH can help MSPs to serve well where issues / low coverage of air signal using AirPON..

So its Win-Win solution :)

HLD of AirPON
