TPLINK router by PPPoE disconnecting from Huawei ne20

HiCoins as reward: 1 (problem unresolved)

Hello,

I have several tplink routers model TL-WR949N and they are disconnecting by PPPoE from BRAS NE20

Performing a packet capture, I verified that this Tplink router makes an ipv6 ping to the Google DNS (2001: 4860: 4860 :: 8888 and 2001: 4860: 4860 :: 4444, however, sometimes it loses connection and performs the ping ipv6 to the fe80 (link local) address of ne20, but ne20 does not respond to ping and the tplink router request the pppoe disconnect.  Does anyone know if need to enable ipv6 ping for fe80 of the interface huawei ne20 for pppoe connections ?

Hi,
The offline reason indicates the PPPoE subscriber disconnect the connection itself.
Also, you can check https://support.huawei.com/hedex/hdx.do?docid=EDOC1100006588&id=dc_ne_pppox_trouble_0010&lang=en
BTW, the user testrede2 gets a IPv4 address. Are you using the dual-stack PPPoE access? Also, kindly refer to the example https://support.huawei.com/hedex/hdx.do?docid=EDOC1100075471&id=dc_ne_pppoe_cfg_0015&lang=en to check your configuration.

Hello @chenhui,

Yes, it is configured in Dual Stack, I am even getting IPv6 on the Tplink router and the Ipv6 is working well for some days.

But Tplink eventually make tests to verify if the connection is still up, pinging Google Public DNS and local FE80 ipv6 address of the BRAS.

When one of them doesn't respond, TPLINK asks for disconnection and never connects again (it needs to reboot to come back to work in ipv6 mode).

We did some packet capture in both sides of the connection, that shows the Tplink asking for the ping, and the huawei was not responding (print attached).

Packet capture

This is a little bit embarrassing for us, because when we change the customer to another flavor of BRAS (like Cisco, Mikrotik or Juniper), we din't observe this behavior. We can ping the fe80 address of the BRAS from the pppoe connection.

So my question is: Is there a way to enable the FE80 ipv6 ping response from the interface for PPPoE connection?

Hi,
I finally found that the interface which configured bas command no longer supports MAC address learning or ARP learning, which I think cause the ipv6 ping packets no response.
Kindly check https://support.huawei.com/hedex/hdx.do?docid=EDOC1100075471&id=bas&lang=en

Hi @chenhui,

I understand the interface with BAS cannot process L2 ARP/MAC, but looking into the packet capture I can see that the ping ipv6 for link-local BRAS/BNG Huawei NE20 occurs inside the PPPOE tunnel and not in the physical interface.

Take a look:

So my question is: Is there a way to enable the FE80 ipv6 ping response from Huawei for a request coming from a PPPoE connection?
