Wi-Fi has been a revolutionary technology in the last two decades. It has taken the world by storm and is continuing to pave its way to success. But now, with Wi-Fi 7, its capabilities will be upgraded to new levels.

Wi-Fi 7 - Based on the developing IEEE 802.11be standard, offers improved performance with extended range and better efficiency. It is not backwards compatible with previous Wi-Fi standards, but the new wave of Wi-Fi devices offer increased bandwidth and reliability.

Wi-Fi 7 will be the next major generational Wi-Fi technology evolution that can supports maximum transmission rates up to 30 Gbps, while the existing Wi-Fi standards (Wi-Fi 6) offers upto 9.6 Gbps. With this increased data rate and tighter channel spacing, it offers improved performance with extended range and better efficiency.

Looking at the following comparison, we can say that the Wi-Fi 7 is the next big thing in wireless internet.

wifi 6 vs 7

MediaTek had already conducted the world's first live demonstration of WiFi 7 and earlier annouced the Wi-Fi 7 product availability by 2023.

The three major Wi-Fi chipmakers, Broadcom, Qualcomm, and MediaTek aimed to launch the commercial blueprint of Wi-Fi product soon.

  • Do you think we really need this much speed now?

  • Will the Wi-Fi 7 be backward compatible and coexist with legacy devices in the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz spectrum bands?

  • Isn't it Wi-Fi 6 / Wi-Fi 6E are enough to fulill our needs? (atleast for now and for the next 5 years)

  • Will the chipmakers/product manufacturer be able to commerically launch the Wi-Fi 7 products by 2023?

We may not need for domestic use but for commercial needs more speed is always welcome to open up new horizon/use cases.

        Yes, it is.

As already mentioned in Q1, it may feel enough for now but may not be enouh in 2-3 years, we will be needing more speed, have diferent new use cases requiring higher speed than what we have now.

They may be able to lauch it by 2023 but I don't think i will be in large scale; it may take good 2-3 year to be wiedely available, may be more.
