This post was last edited by multibear16 at 2018-11-26 02:56. Hello!
We have two OceanStor 5500 V3 V300R003C20SPC200 SPH205 Storage Systems.
2 thin LUNs form a synchronous remote replication pair. Replication pair health and status is "Normal". Secondary Resource Data Status is "Synchronized".
Primary LUN is presented to ESXi 6.5 hosts as a datastore, it has 3 VMs, and vSphere web client shows that used space of that datastore is 7.04 TB.
Primary LUN's Allocated Capacity in OceanStor DeviceManager is 6.321 TB but Secondary LUN's Allocated Capacity is only 1.814 TB.
1) Why is Primary LUN's Allocated Capacity is lower than datastore used space in vSphere web client?
2) Why is Secondary LUN's Allocated Capacity is so much lower than Primary LUN's Allocated Capacity? Is my data consistent on a Secondary LUN? It can't be just 1.814 TB as I have a VM in the Primary LUN which has a 7TB thin provisioned hard disk with 6.2 TB of real data in it.
I tried to Split the replication and then Synchronize it again, but synchonizing takes less than a minute and after that it shows "Normal/Synchronized" statuses and Secondary LUN's Allocated Capacity stays the same - 1.814 TB.

hello, bro ,about your  issue ,
1) Why is Primary LUN's Allocated Capacity is lower than datastore used space in vSphere web client?
please check your HBA card , Because different HBA cards have different calculation units, for example, some calculations are 1TB=1024GB, and some are 1TB=1000GB.Therefore, there is a phenomenon that the capacity displayed on the storage is different from the capacity of the virtual platform.
2).Why is Secondary LUN's Allocated Capacity is so much lower than Primary LUN's Allocated Capacity? Is my data consistent on a Secondary LUN? It can't be just 1.814 TB as I have a VM in the Primary LUN which has a 7TB thin provisioned hard disk with 6.2 TB of real data in it.

When the remote replication lun is initially created, the size of the main lun and the slave lun are the same. If there is no deduplication and compression, this phenomenon will not occur theoretically. The specific problem may need to collect logs for viewing, so please create a ticket to the local TAC to help you better handle the problem. thank  you

To confirm your questions is necessary know the configuration for each Oceanstor, replication and LUN and you need to create a service requested to confirm..

Is necessary check the configuration to validate the Smart Dedupe and Smart Compression feature according the Oceanstor model.

You will read the Smart Dedupe and Smart Compression to understand why the allocated is different.

Is the LUN type a thin LUN ? if it is Thin LUN , maybe you enable the Smart Dedupe and Smart Compression feature .

Hello, guys!
Primary and Secondary LUN's are Thin. We have no Smart Dedupe and Smart Compression licenses, so there is no deduplication and compression.
