Scenario
A disk drive cannot be initialized.
Solution
Create 2 virtual disks. VD0 (1TB) for OS, then VD1 (Remaining capacity) for other applications.
Manually create the RAID and Virtual drives for LSI SAS2208
1. Set the legacy mode.
2. Log in to the configuration Utility of the LSI SAS2208 controller card.
a) During startup, press 'Ctrl+H' when promopted. The Adapter Selection screen is displayed.
b) Select LSI SAS2208 and click Start.
c) In the configuration wizard, select 'New Configuration'.
d) Select 'Manual Configuration' then click 'Next'. The Drive Group Definition screen will be displayed.
3. Manually create RAID.
a) Add the hard drives to a drive group by selecting the hard drives from the left screen then by clicking 'Add to Array' to add them to the drive group.
b) Click Accept DG to accept the hard drive list. Then Click 'Next' to display the Span Definition Screen.
c) Select the drive group from the 'Array with free space'. Then click 'Add to Span'. Then Click 'Next'.
d) Configure the RAID level.
4. Create the Virtual Drive.
a) Virtual Drive definition screen will be displayed.

b) Create multiple virtual drives.
c) To divide a drive group into multiple virtual drives, you need to manually configure the capacity for each virtual drive.
I. Enter the capacity to be configured in the Select Size text box. Then click Accept. Then click Update Size.
II. After creating the virtual drives, you will see it on the right side.
III. Click Next.
IV. Click Accept, then Yes.
5. Initialize virtual drives.
a) The RAID initialization starts.
b) After this, optimal is displayed in the virtual drives pane.

6. Configure the boot drive.
a) Select a virtual drive to be set as the boot drive, select Set Boot Drive then click Go. Choose drive for OS Installation.
b) After configuring the boot drive, set boot drive changes to current=N. (Note: N indicates the virtual drive ID).
7. Check the configuration result.
a) Click Home in the lower left corner.
b) The Configuration Utility main screen is displayed. The configured RAID information is displayed in the Logical View area.
8. Save and restart the server.
