Hi, there!
This post is about the setup guide for SMR (Shingled Magnetic Recording). Please see below for more details.
The correct identification of the Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) depends on the specific version of the hard disk firmware, hard disk backplane firmware and the SAS card firmware (the value of disk_type in the second column of the lsscsi command is 0x14 ).
The following table lists the firmware versions:
bItem | Subitems | Version | Tool |
Hard disk firmware | T10D | hugo
Hard disk backplane firmware | expander flash utility | 10.0.0.0 | g3Xflash |
FW version | 00.15.01.00
MFG version | 01.01 | ||
platform version | 00.01
SAS card backplane firmware | 15.00.07.00 | sas3flash |
Install the system
Enter the BIOS interface and configure the system hard RAID array.
On the kvm screen, restart and press F11 to enter the BIOS interface.
Device Manager > LSI SAS3 MPT Controller SAS3008* > LSI SAS MPT Controller Version 17.00.04.00 > Controller Management > Create Configuration.
Configure the system hard RAID.
The RAID level is raid1. Because the current 3008 RAID card does not recognize the system disks 44 and 45, the common data disks in slots 0 and 1 are used as the system hard RAID.

Use the C20 lightweight cloud system image to install the system.
Upgrade the hard disk backplane and SAS card firmware
Obtain the expander_tool and folder from the 3.180.16.11:/home/cspexpert.
Upgrade the hard disk backplane.

After the installation is complete, power on the server again and check whether the upgrade is successful.

Upgrade the firmware version of the SAS card.
Run the following command to check the firmware version of the SAS card. If the version is not the current version, perform the following upgrade operations:

Upgrade operations:

After the upgrade is complete, power on the server again and run the ./sas3flash -listall command to check whether the version is correct.
Check whether the Shingled Magnetic Recording can be identified

Thanks!
