Symptom
After a slave subrack on the OptiX OSN 6800 is expanded and then powered on, the SCC in the subrack reports the POWER_FAIL alarm with the parameter of 0x05, 0xff, and 0xff.
Cause analysis
The main causes that the SCC reports the POWER_FAIL alarm are as follows:
l The battery on the SCC has low power.
l The DIP (Dual In-line Package) switch is set improperly.
l The SCC is in fault.
Procedure
1. As described in the OptiX OSN 6800 Intelligent Optical Transport Platform Alarms and Performance Events, the parameter 0x05 indicates that the battery on the SCC has little or no power.
2. This indicates that the problem is caused by either of the following causes:
A. The battery on the SCC has no power.
B. The DIP switch is set improperly.
3. According to the OptiX OSN 6800 Intelligent Optical Transport Platform Hardware Description, the SCC has a built-in three-bit DIP, which is used to switch on or off the power supplied by the battery on the board. When the board is in normal use, the jumper cap should be installed onto the two pins that are close to the board downside-edge.
4. Remove the SCC and then check the setting of the DIP switch. It is found that the DIP switch is set improperly. In this case, correct the setting of the DIP, and then reinsert the SCC. The alarm clears.
Result
The problem is solved after the operation is finished as the requests.
