The rate of the SAS port causes the inspection failure

When the tool is used for inspection, the SAS port rate is abnormal (10 Mbit / s).

The inspection and CLI/DeviceManager display are affected. In fact, the port is normal and has no impact on I/O services and other functions.

When the DMI module routinely detects the status of an SAS port, the SES link is interrupted or link switchover is being performed. As a result, an invalid 0xFF is returned, causing DMI to obtain incorrect port information.

1. The DMI module is detecting the status of SAS ports on the peer-end expansion board. If the SES link is interrupted or link switchover is performed during the detection, 0xFF is returned for the ports.

2. When the DMI detects 0xFF for a peer-end controller's SAS port, it regards the port as not in position. It then sends an inter-board message to the peer-end controller, instructing the controller to delete the port.

[2015-01-23 17:05][28803351][1500002da166b][INFO][SyncSasPortInfo: (del) to node(5), encl(0x510517212ca5303f), port id(0x926010), health status(0), running status(0).][DMI][DPL_SyncPeerPortStatusToPeer,678][Routine_SaPc]

In the subsequent routine detection, after the SES link becomes normal again, the DMI detects 1 (LINK_UP) instead of 0xFF for a peer-end SAS port.

[2015-01-23 17:05][28810255][1500002da166e][INFO][Sas port(0x11001200080000) peer status change from 255 to 1.][DMI][DPL_RoutinePeerPortStatus,756][Routine_SaPc]

Because the SAS port's status becomes normal again, the DMI sends another inter-board message to the peer-end controller, instructing the controller to create the SAS port.

[2015-01-23 17:05][28810255][1500002da166b][INFO][SyncSasPortInfo: (to be released) to node(5), encl(0x510517212ca5303f), port id(0x926010), health status(1), running status(10).][DMI][DPL_SyncPeerPortStatusToPeer,678][Routine_SaPc]

3. During the SAS port creation, the SAS port information sent from the peer end has no rate and WWN information (which can be obtained only by the local controller). As a result, the rate and WWN data are both 0 in the information about the created SAS port.

4. When you run the show port general command to view the port information in the CLI, if the rate data is 0, it is converted to 10 indicating 10 Mbit/s, but the WWN is displayed as 0.

Workaround 1:

Restart the controllers in engine 2 or restart the cluster.

Workaround 2:

a. Unplug the expansion cable from the PRI port on expansion module A of the disk enclosure whose port rate is 10 Mbit/s. Wait at least 10s and then reinsert the cable.

b. Wait approximately five minutes for the system to stabilize. Then unplug the expansion cable from the PRI port on expansion module B of the disk enclosure whose port rate is 10 Mbit/s. Wait at least 10s and then reinsert the cable.

When you unplug the expansion cables, a serious single-link alarm will be displayed for the disk enclosure.

This approach is dangerous in a cabinet because other important cables may be knocked off or unplugged by mistake, exposing the system to unexpected risks.
