The Overview of the Top-Level Domains (TLDs)
HI Hi, Greetings!
Happy January
Today, I would like to share with you an article about the overview of the Top-Level Domains (TLDs). Let's move to the article and I will explain part by part.
PART 01:
Definition of the Top-Level Domain (TLD):
After the root zone, a top-level domain (TLD) is the next stop in the DNS hierarchy. To put it another way, a TLD is everything in a domain name following the last dot. The TLD of the domain name 'google.com', for example, is '.com'. Other notable TLDs include '.org', '.lk', and '.edu'.
In the DNS lookup procedure, TLDs are very significant. When a user types a domain name like 'google.com' into their browser window, the DNS resolvers begin the search by interacting with the TLD server for all uncached queries. The resolver will contact the TLD DNS server because the TLD is '.com,' and the TLD DNS server will provide the resolver with the IP address of Google's origin server.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is in charge of all TLDs used on the Internet, and it delegated responsibility for certain TLDs to other organizations. VeriSign, a company based in the United States, handles all '.com' and '.net' TLDs, for example.
TLDs also aid in the classification and communication of domain names' purposes. Consider the following examples of what each TLD may tell you about the domain that comes before it:
The domain '.com' is reserved for commercial use.
The domain '.gov' is reserved for government agencies in all nations.
The domain extension '.lk' is reserved for domains registered in Sri Lanka.

How do TLDs work
Hold on to your hats, because we're about to get into the weeds of top-level domains. To properly load a website, computers must search each portion of the domain name for the data they require, beginning with the top-level domain.
There are 13 root name servers in that domain that hold all of the information for all of the gTLDs. The name server for the.com domain, for example, will include information about zaheer.com but not about zaheer.lk.
In charge of top-level domain management:
The task for worldwide domain name coordination is delegated to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), a non-profit organization, is a division of ICANN. TLDs are assigned IP addresses by IANA, which are necessary for a domain to be discovered online.
