Hello, everyone. Today, I will share a case of OSN2500 board damage caused by SO2 gas.

Fault phenomenon:

Two OSN2500s in the equipment room are located in the same cabinet, both devices have corrosion of the veneer.

Processing:

1. The first-line engineer mailed the corroded veneer to the Huawei laboratory. After inspection, the two reports about veneer sulfur corrosion were given. The first-line engineers submitted the report to the customer, but the customer did not accept it.

2. Later, after testing by a third-party organization, the results showed that there was SO2 gas in the equipment room and normal gas outside the machine room.

3. Continued to check and found that the problem was caused by battery leakage.

4. Replaced the battery

5. After the customer replaced the battery, the SO2 gas in the equipment room was tested again. As a result, SO2 is not found, and the OSN2500 equipment board was normal.

root cause :

The battery liquid leaks and emits SO2 gas, causing corrosion of the OSN2500 equipment veneer.

For details about how to detect the sulfide gas in the equipment room, please see the attachment.

Thank you!

Yes, usually electrical equipment and batteries should not be placed in the same room.

Is it different in using acidic or atomic batteries?

All batteries with acidic aqueous solution as electrolyte are collectively referred to as acidic batteries, the most typical of which is lead-acid batteries. The main advantages of acidic batteries are high working voltage, wide use of temperature, high and low rate discharge performance, rich source of raw materials and low price. The disadvantage is that the energy density is low, so that its volume and weight are large.
An atomic cell is a radioactive isotope battery, also known as a nuclear

thanks. But my question is that : both acidic and atomic batteries are emits SO2 gas.

I think that only the acid battery will emit SO2 gas because its electrolytic solution is H2SO4. For the atomic battery, it does not contain sulfide.

Thank you for the explanation and I confirm that the electrical part in the network is very important but unfortunately we do not care enough especially in the OPEX.
Good case one day we really need. Thanks for sharing
