The management plane VRM is inconsistent with CNA vlan

This post is about the management plane VRM being inconsistent with CNA vlan, causing an abnormal heartbeat between the active and standby VRMs.


Problem description


The heartbeat between the active and standby VRMs is abnormal, and the database synchronization error alarm between the active and standby nodes occurs.


Problem analysis


1. The alarm information is as follows:

ALM-15.1002000 Heartbeat Communication Between Active and Standby VRM Nodes

Interrupted


2. Check the network between the active and standby devices. The network between the active and standby vrms is unreachable. And the standby node cannot access the outside and cannot ping the gateway.


3. Capture the packets on the node where the standby VRM resides. The ping packet of the back-end NIC of the standby node can be sent, but no return. While capturing the host bond, a packet is returned:

4. Check the vrm back-end NIC. The tag is 20 and the tags of the VRM active node and host are both 0.

The above analysis shows that the management plane of the management port vlan of the standby VRM is inconsistent with the one of CNA, thus the communication exception occurs.


Solution description


Modify the port group of the VRM and update it the same as that of the host management plane port group, then shut down the vrm VM and re-power it on the FC page to resume working.
