Got it

The disk firmware fails to be upgraded

Hello, everyone!

The post will share with you how to solve the failure to upgrade the disk firmware.

Symptoms

If an alarm is detected during the disk firmware upgrade, the check fails. After the alarm is cleared, upgrade the firmware again. If an alarm is reported again, the check fails.

In addition, the ignore button is not displayed on the disk firmware upgrade page.

图1

Manually clear the alarm and upgrade the hard disk firmware again.

The tool still detects alarms in the system, but the alarm check fails.

Cause

An alarm indicating insufficient storage pool capacity exists on the storage device. In some storage versions earlier than V300R006C50SPC100/V500R007C30SPC100, the alarm is automatically reported in the background after the alarm is manually cleared. As a result, SmartKit detects capacity-related alarms again when it is running again. As a result, the alarm check fails.

Analysis

On DeviceManager, the cleared alarm indicating insufficient capacity is automatically reported again. The alarm is reported again in about 1 minute.

Therefore, you cannot manually clear the alarm to skip the disk firmware upgrade check.

Note:

Automatic alarm clearance involves only three alarms: Insufficient Storage Pool Capacity, Exhausted Storage Pool Capacity, and Storage Pool Data Protection Capacity Exceeding the Threshold.

In V300R006C50SPC100/V500R007C30SPC100 and later versions, this function has been optimized. After alarms related to insufficient capacity are manually cleared, the system does not automatically report the alarms again.

Solution

Method 1 is recommended. Method 2 and method 3 are recommended. Before using method 2 or 3, consult R&D engineers to evaluate risks.

Method 1: Expand the capacity of the storage pool to clear the alarm.

Method 2: Mask capacity-related alarms. After the disk firmware is upgraded, unmask the alarms.

(1) Log in to DeviceManager and query the alarm IDs related to the capacity alarm.

图3

(2) Choose Settings > Alarm Settings > Alarm Masking, select the alarm, and select Enable Alarm Masking in the lower left corner to mask the alarm.

图4

The following figure shows that the masking is successful.

图5

(3) On the DeviceManager home page, the capacity alarm is automatically cleared.

(If there are IDs related to other capacity alarms, mask them.)

Note:

Only capacity-related alarms can be masked by referring to this method. If other alarms need to be masked, contact R&D engineers for evaluation.

(4) Return to the SmartKit page and retry the disk firmware upgrade process to complete the disk firmware upgrade.

(5) After the hard disk firmware is upgraded, return to Settings > Alarm Settings > Alarm Masking and cancel the masked alarms. See the following figure.

图6

After the alarm is canceled, the masked alarms are displayed again.

图7

Note: After the upgrade is complete, clear the masked alarms to prevent service interruption caused by masked alarms.

Method 3: If no capacity is available and no other alarms (only alarms related to the storage pool capacity) exist, perform the following operations: (Check that SmartKit and disk firmware upgrade tools are the latest and the storage version supports concurrent disk upgrade.)

(1) Start the hard disk firmware upgrade tool, add devices, and do not start the upgrade task.

(2) In the SmartKit installation directory, go to the following directory:

Huawei SmartKit\tools\ArrayUpgrade\packages\DiskUpgrade\products

An empty ignoreitem.txt file is displayed. (If you do not perform the first step, the file is not displayed.)

Edit the file, enter SysAlarmCheck, and save the file.

图8

(3) Return to the tool to upgrade the hard disk firmware. When the system alarm check is performed, a message indicating that the check fails is displayed. Click View details and select Ignore to continue the upgrade.

图9

(If the storage version does not support concurrent upgrade, even if you can ignore this step, alarms will still be checked before each disk is upgraded. Therefore, this method does not take effect. You can only solve this problem by expanding the capacity.)

Note 1: If the tool version is V2R6RC5 or later, start the upgrade task first. After an alarm fails to be detected, go to Huawei SmartKit\tools\ArrayUpgrade and check whether a new line is added to the ignoreitem.txt file, as shown in the following figure.

10.224.4.177_SysAlarmCheck=no

10.224.4.177 is the management IP address of the storage device where the disk firmware is being upgraded. Change no to yes, save the file, return to the disk firmware upgrade page, and try again to skip the alarm check item and continue the disk firmware upgrade.

Note 2: The following table lists the versions that support fast disk firmware upgrade (for details, see the disk firmware upgrade guide).

Check After Restoration

The alarm check process can pass the check during the disk firmware upgrade.

That's all, thanks!
