Hi team,

Our customer has a S7710 switch. The password for this switch is lost. We have followed the steps below to try to clear the console password through the bootload menu.

Press Ctrl+B to enter the BootLoad menu during system startup.

BootLoad Menu

     1. Boot with default mode

     2. Enter ethernet submenu

     3. Modify Flash description area

     4. File system submenu

     5. Enter password submenu

     6. Clear password for console user

     7. Reboot

Enter your choice(1-7): 6

Note: Clear password for console user? Yes or No(Y/N): y

Clear password for console user successfully.

Note: Choose "1. Boot with default mode" to boot, then set a new password

After the device is started, it still prompts for a password. The password fails to be cleared.

Does anyone know why? Thank you!

Hello,

When a modular switch with two MPUs starts, once ctrl+b is used to enter the BOOT menu, the slave MPU will start first and become the master. As a result, even if the password clearing operation is performed,  the password will be synchronized by the master, causing the clearing fails.

In this case, you should first remove the slave MPU to keep the device in the single MPU state. Then follow the steps you described to clear the password.

And insert the slave MPU after the MPU is started successfully.

I hope this helps.
