tests for cellular interfaces on redundancy

A cellular interface is a great gateway for redundancy options, you can set up a NQA test another gateway and in case it goes down, the cellular interface may be the option to failover to, for example:

#
nqa test-instance testerota icmp
 test-type icmp
 destination-address ipv4 3.3.3.3
 frequency 60
 probe-count 4
 datasize 20
 start now
#

interface Cellular0/0/0
 link-protocol ppp
 ppp ipcp dns admit-any
 ppp ipcp dns request
 dialer enable-circular
 dialer-group 7
 dialer timer idle 0
 apn-profile test
 dialer timer autodial 10
 dialer number *99# autodial
 standby track nqa test icmp
 ip address negotiate
#

So the interface will just work in case the 3.3.3.3 address becomes unreachable, for which you can shut down the remote host or the exit interface.

If such an option is not feasible, you can also set up a floating static IP route to merely test the cellular interface, such as:

ip route-static 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Cellular0/0/0 preference 250

and customize the preference accordingly.

Any hash function can be used for redundancy checking. The simplest redundancy check is called check sum, which includes check bits, check codes, and longitudinal redundancy check (LRC, Longitudinal Redundancy Check). Other types of redundancy checks include cyclic redundancy checks (CRC), horizontal redundancy checks, vertical redundancy checks, and Cryptographic Message Digest.
