  HiCoins as reward: 0 (problem unresolved)

I thought changing the routers password was a security priority. But I have found out it is near to impossible to change the telecomadmin default password on a HG8245Q2 model. I know there`s some painfull way to change it, but why?? shouldnt be supposed to be an easy task, being and important issue??

Or am I wrong? is there no need to change this password for security reasons?

The only password I can change easily is the "root" user.

Please someone explain to me this enigma, thanks.

Hello friend!

HG8245Q is a customized device for Carriers.

Generally, you can use only the default username and password (information on the device nameplate). The administrator account is used by ISPs and network engineers for network deployment and maintenance.

To ensure network security and prevent network errors caused by incorrect configurations, ISPs do not provide device administrator accounts and passwords for users. Due to the customization requirements of ISPs, we cannot obtain the customized information.

If you are an ISP employee, you can use the VAS template for maintenance. If you are a regular home user, if you need to change the administrator account password, you can only contact the ISP for a solution.

Thanks!

Hello,

You can change the admin password only via U2000.

Please see the steps:

Step 1. Download the old VAS profile and find the UserInterface nodes:

<UserInterface>
<X_HW_WebUserInfo NumberOfInstances="1">
<X_HW_WebUserInfoInstance Enable="1" InstanceID="2" Password="UD3F450BF1420B1D1EC4FC28B83634BB" UserLevel="0" UserName="e6588EED7B47E466BE215DD0D1239256"/>
</X_HW_WebUserInfo>
</UserInterface>

Step 2. Change the Password and the UserName to what you want. For example telecomadmin/telecomadminpasswd.

<UserInterface>
<X_HW_WebUserInfo NumberOfInstances="1">
<X_HW_WebUserInfoInstance Enable="1" InstanceID="2" Password="telecomadminpasswd" UserLevel="0" UserName="telecomadmin"/>
</X_HW_WebUserInfo>
</UserInterface>

Step 3. Upload the new VAS profile and bind again.

Good luck! :)

I understand now the "why". Thank you for your answer.

There is only one doubt left, from my original question: This shouldnt be a security issue then? One can be rest assure that there is no need to change this password? My confusion is that I frequently read that we must change the admin password as soon as posible to prevent security breaches.

I guess I`ll just conclude there`s no security risk by not changing the admin password.

I am sorry! my friend!
You don't usually need to change the administrator password, your ISP's network, and the security of the network is maintained by the ISP.
