What is metadata?

Metadata is information about the organization of data, data domains and their relationships. In short, metadata is data about data. Metadata includes metadata entities and metadata elements. The metadata element is the basic unit of metadata, and several related metadata elements constitute the metadata entity.

Classification of metadata:

1) Business metadata: includes subject field grouping, subject field, business object, logical entity, business name and business definition of attribute and data standard, attribute data type and other characteristics, scope description and business rules, and valid range And its definition. The business metadata owned by an enterprise is the business asset of the enterprise.

2) Technical metadata: Provide system information for developers or technical users, including physical table names and field names, field attributes, attributes of other database objects, and data storage characteristics. The technical metadata owned by an enterprise is the technical asset of the enterprise.

3) Operational metadata: Mainly used to meet the needs of IT operation and maintenance users. It includes data migration information, data source and target system information, batch processing procedures, task frequency, scheduling exception handling, backup and recovery information, archiving rules, and Use and other information.

 

Data asset management in DAYU

Through the DAYU data asset module, users can view data maps, and can also perform data authority management and data security management on data assets. The data map includes business assets and technical assets: business assets include logical entities and business objects; technical assets include data connections, database objects, etc.

In data asset-task management, configure metadata collection tasks to collect technical metadata from the original data layer migrated to the cloud into technical assets.

Manage data assets through standardized design-relational modeling:

Enter the configuration center and confirm whether the options of "Synchronize Technical Assets", "Synchronize Business Assets" and "Asset Association" in the model design business process steps are checked according to the user's business requirements:

Entering the theme design module, users can build a unified data classification system for catalog management of all business data, which is convenient for data classification, search, evaluation, and use. The classification and definition of data through a hierarchical structure can help users clarify data assets and clarify the relationship between business fields and business objects.

  • Subject field grouping: group subject fields based on business scenarios;

  • Subject area: high-level data classification that does not overlap data, used to manage its next-level business objects;

  • Business Object: Refers to important people, events, and material information that are indispensable in the operation and management of an enterprise.

Enter the relational modeling module, if the relational model has not been created, the system will pop up a prompt box, click "OK" to create a relational model.

For the technical metadata collected in the DAYU data asset in the previous steps, the technical metadata can be reversed to the relational modeling for management through the reverse database function:

Business metadata can be imported in batches using the Excel template through the "Import" function in "More":

In addition, in relational modeling, you can also create new business metadata by creating a new business table:

After completing the design and editing of the table created in the above steps, it will need to be submitted to the reviewer for review.

After the review and release, the business metadata of the model in the specification design will be synchronized to the data assets according to the configuration.
