Hi community.

As far as I know, the Sx700 Series family is based on VRP v5.

I want to know if VRP v5 has also a completely modular design like VRF v8 (OS modules isolated from each other so that failure of a single module does not affect other modules) to improve system reliabiity.

Thanks in advance

hi, I only found this http://support.huawei.com/hedex/hdx.do?docid=EDOC1000170178&lang=en, it says The VRP5 is a distributed network operating system, I'm not sure if it is relevant to the OS modules isolation, but I think if it doesn't support the OS module isolate from each other, then there is no need to provide two MPU module, because in that situation, one MPU failed means the device down.

Hello,

Which switch type do you have ? I think the version is not important here. For example, S12700 series has two MPUs in the slots that can work in hot standby mode.

Hi Pals.

Some CEs also have 2 MPUs and their OS (VRP v8) is modular. With "Modular" I am not talking about a modular chassis (hardware architecture), I am talking about the OS modules (software design) that comes in the switch.

For your reference, see the following link, so that you can understand what I am talking about:
https://e.huawei.com/us/tech-topic/en/hw_198987

Sim,
Your link is interesting, it seems VRP v5 is also a distributed OS, but ... is it multi process like VRP v8?

yes, it is a multi process OS, and that is all I know.
