Switches upgrade using license

Hi,

Huawei switches come preconfigured and have pre-install licence on the hardware in the form of li, SI, EI and HI. But in case of some other major vendors like Cisco, they give option to upgrade switch later on from Layer 2 to layer 3 by just adding a license, instead of replacing a switch.

Huawei should introduce such Option as well.

@umaryaqub Hi,
I think the physical components for LI, SI, EI and HI are different from each other, which makes the switch switch from EI to HI unpossible.
Another issue, the physical model switching through the license would confuse the device administrators. Such as an EI switch upgrade to HI switch, but the nameplate on the switch keeps the same. If the network administrator changed, the new administrator would be hard to make the relevant between the real HI switch and the physical switch with EI nameplate.

Yes, in case of huawei low-end HW is used for LI and that is very good to keep the price low. but if later on customer wants to upgrade to L3 switch, they have to physically change the box.
