A typical iSCSI network can be a single-application server network or multiple-application server network according to the number of the application servers on it

A typical iSCSI network can also be a direct network, single-switch network, or multiple-switch network according to the number of switches on it.

The direct network is the most simplified networking mode.

The single-switch network is formed after a switch is added to the direct network. The switch can expand the number of host ports and improve the access capacity of the storage system. In addition, the switch can extend the data transmission distance, enabling an application server that is far away to connect to the storage system. Because there is only one switch on the network, single points of failure may easily occur on it.

The multiple-switch network is formed after another switch is added to the single-switch network. The multiple-switch network not only improves the access capacity of the storage system but also prevents single points of failure, enhancing the reliability of the storage network.
